I'm looking to find a site that sells a bike rack adaptor or something for the MOAPR Jeep roof basket that I have. Anyone know if such a thing exists? I've looked the past couple of nights online for one and have had no luck. I mean i've heard of them but can't seem to find them.....same goes with a spare tire mounting system too. I might want to mount my spare tire up there at some point and am curious if a part for doin that exists....or should I just start working on perfecting my manufacturinf skills? Thanks for the help as always.....

If the roof basket is a Yakima/Jeep, you can just get some Yakima bike racks, they should work, I think (round bars, right?). Really any roof bike racks should have adapters to fit any kind of roof bars, but getting the ones that match the best will make for a cleaner install.

Yea, I do a little Mountain Biking at Shelby Farms every now and again, got a trail I like to take that has lots of routes to take on it. I'm looking at getting a possible spare tire rack as well, maybe the Thule, but I'm gunna check out a bike shop there near the Cordova Cinema and see what they have that might fit.

But I understand about the needin tow hooks deal, with the type of mud we can have in this area it is a nice feature to have.

its more like a necessity :D . But yeah, I have a Specialized Hard Rock sport that's falling to pieces (it's like 10 yrs old atleast) so I'm workin on getting a Gary Fisher Tassajara Disc. There's lots of trails around here, shelby farms and the tour de wolfe is my usual, but I've been exploring lately and have discovered ones in Bartlett, Lakeland, Herb Parsons Lake (way down Macon just inside Fayette County), and a few others. I'm pissed they're doing the expansion of walnut grove because i used to start at tour de wolfe off gtwn pkwy by the shell station, and ride all the way to shelby farms, take the shelby farms trail, and then ride all the way back.

Yea that expansion sux...they won't be done till like October 2008 too. But there are also some nice trails in Shelby Forest in North Shelby County, but I heasr you should have a mosquito net with you, there that bad. But I haven't been on the Bartlett trails but i've heard good things about them.

I have a Kent Black Canyon 21 spd that has treated me well for the last year and half. I'm no professional but just enjoy a good ride every now and again...once my leg heals up from my accident I plan on getting out and riding some. My right leg is still bruised pretty good.

If it was me, I would buy a hitch carrier(like I did) and sit the bike on it. I then strap the bike to the spare tire and all it well! You can also fit more stuff on it like more bikes, or camping gear which i did this past weekend. Cost less and works better IMHO.

I'm leaning towards the Spare Joe by Yakima. It has a 2 bike capacity and mounts directly to the spare tire by a strap system. It looks like it would be easy to install and take off. Anyone have any experience?

I am also looking for a spare tire mount - I think. Is it possible (safe) to tow a trailer using the hitch and carry 2 bikes on a spare tire mount at the same time?

Any concern with spare tire mounts putting undue stress on the gate hinges?

And is it necessary to remove the tire cover or cut a hole in it to install a spare tire mount?

Well depending on what type of trailer it is you might be able to put the bikes in or on it and not worry about a spare tire mount. But to tow a trailer and have 2 bikes on a spare tire mount shouldn't be an issue unless your worried about not being able to use your rear view mirror all that much to help you out with the trailer.

The stress on the hinges I think would only be an issue if you leave the gate open for loooooong period of time. I don't think there would be an issue with that happening.

I htink you have to remove the cover for the spare tire mount to be on the tire but dpending on what style bike mount you get putting a hole in the cover (if you wanted too) could be an option.
