Alright, here's how it works. I'll post a photo and a description of the obstacle, and you describe the line you'd take getting past it. Various elements in the photo are labeled with letters to make it easier to describe.

Description: Dense trees and thick mud all around. There is no room around this path for a go-around, at least not without chopping down some 6-8" diameter trees. The mud is between 3" and a foot deep or more.

Mission: To navigate this trail with minimum body damage. Make sure to list your assumptions, including the specs of the vehicle you are virtually driving. More points for a less capable vehicle (so saying 36" SuperSwampers is less points than Pontiac Fiero).

We're starting simple. Try it with a harder vehicle if you think it's too easy. How about a stock liberty with no skids or rails :-P

Plus it's more of a fun discussion of selecting a line. There are some difficult things about it if you look closely and don't just power through it :-P

don't forget to repost the fixes...

However, If I were in my old Durango (mall rated w/limited slip), I'd have to stay left and hit E with the rt wheels or skirt them if I could. The Durango just has too much rock candy down below. If it went B to A, E would rip something off (why didn't I add skid plates to the virtual car!!!). With some momentum, she'd get through... (man am I glad I own a Jeep now!)

using view one coming from the back left of the picture I would aim my right fron t wheel for rock G and once over that cut hard to the right and blast between rocks D and B for maximum splash and mud spray possibility!!! :lol:

Using view one again except this time I will place left front wheel between rocks E and F, once over that I will cut left has hard as needed to get right front to catch rock D (with the left rear wheel still being on top of Rock F). I will then power through to try to get left front to catch Rock B and then power out between B and C and on to the next obstacle.

OK, this is in a KJ Sport with no lift, front skid only and BBs. If I am going from front to back in the image, then I would go between D and B (might have to get a wheel up on D), then run a wheel up on A, maybe E if I have to, and pray that G doesn't try to ventilate my tranny pan. If it weren't for the tree on the left I'd just put my right tires across C and then roll on out (D'OH, stoopid trees!

) But hey, I'm still learning what it takes to pick a decent line...

Pintos are capable of going 75 mph? I didn't see a downhill ramp in the picture... :mrgreen:

If you have right right wheels on E and are hugging the left side, how did you get over C? It's not in the second view, but it's definitely there...

This is the line I would have taken, as well. The only thing to worry about on that one is when you drop that LF tire off E. You'll be testing that slider pretty well with no lift, and lets hope it doesn't slide left, or you'll find it stuck between the pinch weld and the rail.

Staying further right probably wouldn't have helped, because A actually has some height to it, so the further right you are, the more chance of scraping on A since that puddle around G is a little deeper.

C doesn't look as tall as E. Although it's in deeper water. So...... I'll change my line and hit B & C first, run the L tire up on D while I expand the trail on the rt. side (getting up on some dryer mud), then put my L tire on E, hope that my R tire is on A, or not to far outside of it, and cut back in before I hit the tree.

ok lets do it in a 74 mazda pu two wheel drive 4 cyl with a 5 speed,

from bottom right cut diag between b and c catch D with right front tire, turn wheels to the right with rt rear on D straightn out and run to the left side of F and clear the obstacle.

If you cut between B and C, how are you going to catch D with the right front tire? You'd be all over C still, it's not that far away from B. You'd probably have your left-front tire just to the left of C, putting C all up in your front axle. What kind of clearance does that pickup have?

That mud is pretty soupy and thick, I think you'd want 4WD for it, especially if you're making slow and tight turns - 2wd can really only do mud in a straight line with momentum :-P

I hope that durango has some good rock rails, cuz driving that left tire over E is gonna slide, that's a tall rock.

I hope that durango has some good rock rails, cuz driving that left tire over E is gonna slide, that's a tall rock.

It's a 2000, so it'll ware that scar as a badge of pride!
