We don't have any in stock at this time Nick. We're still waiting for the machine shop to get them to us. Hopefully this week!

Thanks,
Brad

here is my last e-mail:

We've been having email problems on the company account otherwise I would have answered you earlier.

I made a mistake last time. I was thinking you were following up on the aluminum manifolds, not the antenna mounts. We placed a call to the machine shop Friday on the mounts but didn't call a return call. I'll have Lorena follow up again tomorrow. I can tell you this though, I'll be looking for a new machine shop again. This guy just takes too long.

Thanks,
Brad

I just spoke to Brad Kilby today regarding the antenna mounts.

The machine shop has made 47 of them ( he ordered 50 ).....HOWEVER....they mistakinly "tumbled" them which has left the surface discolored and slightly nick'd and scratched. Can you see a pattern here...

He's used some scotch brite pads on a couple of them to see how they would turn out and he's thinking that they're not that bad but you guys might want to paint them or at the very least would have to polish them out yourselves.

I dont know the price...or the avialibity...or even if he will offer them up in their condition ( his products are always top quality so he may not send them out like this) he's looking into getting them cleaned up...and also possibly another run of them , only this time not tumbled.

Brad's a really good guy that is just having some trouble with the machine shop that he delt with. I know you guys want these but try and cut him some slack....he's tryin.

Hang in there 8)

Trouble with the machine shop is understandable. Trouble that takes over 6 months to resolve, and constantly saying it'll be "another week or two" is kinda hard to deal with though. I don't know how many times I've been asked "why don't we take the design somewhere and have em made". I try to stay away from those discussions, but I definitely see why people say it. Everyone wants one and there is nowhere to get one! Frustrating to say the least.

Not sure what the terms were for selling the design to Kilby. If there was a clause for 'failure to perform' and having the ownership of the design revert back to the original owner then sure, go find another partner. If not, oh well, maybe someone will come up with similar clone?

I have another question about this... I have the thule spare me spare tire bike rack and am i was looking at it and it looks like it will just barely not clear the bottom lug where the mount will stick out. I want to be able to have the mount on but then be able to take it off when i am transporting bikes.

Can anyone who has this mount comment on how difficult it is to remove the mount? Also how far out from the rim does it sit? Maybe the bike carrier will be able to sit over top it without the antenna on...

Thanks,

-Nick

KJ Willy, can you please post a pic from the rear of your mount? I like the idea of it going off the back of the vehicle, but I'm one for wanting an antenna to go towards one side or another, versus the kilby mount...

Thanks!
-Mark

I have removed the spring due to it flopping around to much on the trails.

Hope these help you make your choice.

It looks great! Thanks for getting that up so soon!!!

How do you keep it out of the way when you open your trunk? I would imagine that a swivel would be great on there to bend it over to get it out the way of the glass?

I use my trunk almost every day... tools, bikes, tools, laptop.... in other words, if not work then for fun.

I only have the antenna on for wheeling trips and when it comes time to open I just use the quick disconnect and disconnect it.

If I need to get in for just a second I can manipulate it enough to open it up with out issues.

The spring made it really easy cause you could just bend it down and pop open the glass, but my .02 is if you plan to keep the antenna on and open the rear up daily then look into a different mount. I really like mine but I only use it when offroading.

I think I am going to try to get in contact with Kilby to see if they have thier spare tire mount completed and what the story is with it.
