I'm running the GDE Eco Full Torque tune and I didn't keep their tool for applying the tune. I'm curious whether the DIY tune tool backs up the full ECU or just part of it. There are two scenarios I'm considering:

1. Can I use the DIY tools to make a backup in case I ever end up in a dealership for something and need to restore my tune? (reprogramming the spare tire pressure sensor or something like that)

2. Can I try some of the DIY tunes and still get back to my GDE tune using the DIY tools? Do I need to flash back to original software version first or just proceed as if the GDE tune is stock?

I'm still reading through the DIY tunes thread, but it's fairly long so if this has already been answered feel free to point me to it. :)

Thanks!

I didn't keep the flash tool either in 2010 when I got my ECO tune. Then I wanted the Weeks EGR delete and changed to Bosch steel glow plugs. I needed the tune updated so I decided to buy and keep the tool. I may buy the Full torque ECO tune later. in hindsight i should have kept it the first time. being a computer tech id like to mess with the DIY tunes but I just would rather spend my time enjoying my Jeep and my free time being more active than teaching myself how to tune the ECU in front of a PC all weekend.

Someone bricked an ECU by applying a tune with the GDE tune installed... You need the GDE tool to get back to stock before attempting to use a DIY tune.
