Sooo, Chaos Fab Shop took a look at what the issue was. Apparently I cracked my front axle housing. This is going to be a very expensive fix...

The front axle cracked, shifting a bearing, which shifting the carrier, which holds the ring gear, which SHREDDED everything inside...warranty won't cover this....

I was indeed wheeling off road. Not sure how the axle housing cracked though...

^^^^^ this is the time to go sfa!

no idea how this even happened, unless the axle was already weakened by the heavy tires and constant stress on and off road.

maybe find a shop that can diagnose the crack. maybe they'd be able to see the fracture line heat or stress related. give you a better idea instead of replacing the axle etc... and still scratching your head.

having second thoughts about the KK?

if you need any help I may be close by Harrisonburg next week if your still there.

SFA isn't really in my ideas for this build. Chaos Fab Shop already had the KK, they're the ones who found it and told me. Apparently a bearing bound up and cracked it.

This KK is MINE she's going to be the rig I keep for life...I'll keep rebuilding her as need be haha.

I'm really sorry to see such a great KK fall, but I am glad to hear you are going to keep her forever and rebuild her. I'm right there with you, mine will be with me forever.

Sorry about the issues. Glad your keeping her for life! Hope all is resolved quickly.

Can't wait to see your rig back on the trail.

You can still drive it if you pull the diff, driveshaft, and CVs right? You can have them setup the gears in the new case and just throw it back in. From what I understand pulling/installing the case is pretty straight forward.

Pretty sure you can. I know jeepin_it_real and a few of the KJ guys have pulled their front driveshafts for a while.

Good news on this. Chaos found a front axle for $250. AK once again shined light onto my learning brain. If I break a stock axle housing open, I definitely will locked. So I "downgraded" and put in a Detroit TrueTrac for the front and have an OX rear locker coming in for the rear.
