drove her just yesterday with the cruise control working and today nothing.
The cruise light comes on but nothing engages.

Check the vacuum line and the vacuum ball (if there is one) that maintains the pressure. When this same thing happened on my '00 XJ, that was the culprit. Relatively simple fix, too. On the '00 XJ, the vacuum ball was located behind the passengers side front bumper. No idea where it might be on an '05 KJ though. (I think yours is early enough not to have the drive by wire throttle system that my KK has.)
