If you lower to 70mph you'll get couple mpg for sure.

That is - if they can scrape your Jeep off of the truck that tries to run over you...

I35 is not a relaxing drive,

75-80 is much safer

(NAFTA and trucks going from Mexico to points North - they're in a hurry)

Then write a "speed kills" on the tailgate, lol. But I get your point, sometimes low speed is quite unsafe.

they are professional drivers, they should have the skill to be able to change lanes and pass you.
but unless they're willing to pay my fuel bill, I don't care if they're upset that I drive slow.

Well - I drive to keep up with traffic - as long as the road supports it

if that uses a little extra fuel - so be it.

I35 Austin - Round rock - is regularly one of the top ten in worst congestion areas of the country

and 18 wheelers are about 4% of vehicles on the road and about 8% of the accidents - keeps the Lawyers in business

My completely stock 2005 got 23mpg summer and 19mpg winter no matter how I drove it until the F37 torque converter recall. After the dealer was done it only got 19mpg summer and 14mpg winter. 75,000 miles on it. LOST in my shop for much too long researching the timing belt and everything else change.

Here is my highway GPS MPG, full tank to full tank, hand calculated, with Yeti 808 mild tune, 70 to 80 MPH speed.
25 MPG going with the wind. Austin to Dallas. About 30 minutes out of 3.5 hours were in 30-40 MPH traffic. So think I came close to stock MPG reported earlier.

Little update: I have installed GDE FT Eco tune few months back.
I was getting 27MPG highway on average after GDE tune.

I observed something fascinating: I am averaging 30MPG highway now after replacing engine mounts and last oil change. I am not complaining but what did I do right? Speed is still 70-80MPH. Same gas station. Nothing else has changed.

By that way, the highest so far is from Austin to Dallas (along the wind) at whopping 34.4 MPG!

My brain started thinking after writing the last message and I answered my own question. It turned out that I also fixed a tiny fuel leak I had introduced when I installed 2 micron filter head. The leak was very tiny (no drops on the driveway tiny) so I didn't fix it until last oil change. I can't believe such a small leak can cause such great impact on the fuel efficiency.
