About $25,000.00 is what mine cost new. Add about $5000.00 for parts that should have been put on at the factory or needs to be replaced due to wrong oil recommended by jeep chrysler mercedes fiat dodge daimler benz. Zero weight oil is zero lubrication for this engine.

Sticker on my first one (Sport model) was $25,800. The diesel engine was a $2,800 option, but it included alloy wheels, fog lamps, 3.73 gears, and other stuff that would have been optional on a gas model....so it was a bargain.

My second one was a Limited and those were easily optioned out to over $30,000.

Well let's compare a 2005 Wrangler to a 2005 Liberty CRD:

TJ: weak D35 rear axle that snaps like a toothpick
KJ: Corporate 8.25 axle that is much stronger

TJ: POS 42RLE 4-speed transmission
KJ: Bulletproof 545RFE 5-speed transmission that's also used in Ram 3500 trucks with Hemis

TJ: 231 t-case with no full time setting
KJ: 242 t-case with everything the 231 has, plus a full time setting

TJ: solid 4-link front axle that's notorious for death wobble and needs regular maintenance of bushings, linkages, etc.
KJ: IFS which is low maintenance, doesn't death wobble, and rides better

TJ: Horrendous 2.5L 4-cylinder that can barely turn the tires over or 4.0L 6-cylinder that leaks oil like a sieve, has rampant valvetrain issues, piston cracking issues, and generally is useful as a boat anchor
KJ: Industrial grade turbo-diesel that makes impressive torque and is better for offroad use and on the road towing

TJ: Has drain plugs in the floor because the top leaks everytime it rains
KJ: Doesn't have drain plugs in the floor because it doesn't leak everytime it rains.

You need to tell the guy at work that the Liberty CRD is the "poor man's Jeep" because the owners don't have money to constantly throw at tools, parts, and fuel like Wrangler owners.

(For the record, I've owned three Wranglers).

From another Jeep Lifer, who's also owned CJ/TJ Wranglers:

However, all that being said, if you knock out 1 rocker, you cover the cost of most of that TJ stuff with 1 repair, even if you do your own work.

**ALSO, you forgot the TJ proclivity to melt the heater core or fry the entire wiring assembly**

While I'm no fan of Wranglers(hey they ride/drive like complete garbage) when you compare a TJ Rubicon to a KJ CRD there is just no comparison that the Rubicon would win hands down in every category besides mpg's.

Oh and I got rid of IFS for a stronger driveline and by far less maintenance. In 6 years with SFA my total suspension maintenance cost has been $10 for the 2 tubes of grease(hey it takes a lot of grease for 54 grease zerks) and zero death wobble.
