I've been patiently waiting for the (very helpful) personnel at the local big box store to fix my TPMS sensors. I bought a new set of tires about 1.5 months ago and had them replace the TPMS sensors at the same time. They use generic Schrader sensors and have tried two different part numbers for the Liberty without any luck. The only thing that I can think of is that the spare tire still has the original sensor, which is maybe confusing the computer.

Has anyone else replaced these and had any issues? My 2006 CRD has the Limited package with the individual tire pressures displayed on the overhead display.

I don't have TPMS in my 06 Limited. Only speed sensors in bearings. Did you check parts manual? Did you try removing original TPMS from the spare?

By the way, speed sensors detects low pressure in one of the tires by monitoring RPM difference between wheels and I get tire pressure low light in the dashboard.

Did you take them out? All cars from 2005 have tpms, thanks to us government regulations. The sensors on liberty are where the valve stem is, inside the rim. They are powered by batteries. Some newer cars have hub sensors, which do what you said, including monitoring pressure based on wheel rotation.

I'm not even hinting you're not right, I thought all crds had tpms sensors in the wheel from the factory. Maybe 06-es have the hub sensor? I know 05 has wheel tpms sensor.

05 and 06 US models both have valve stem tpms sensors some report only to instrument panel warning light others send psi readings to EVIC

I thought it was only the 06 models that had TPMS.
Clearly, not every CRD has these sensors.

Flash, maybe your crd has the TPMS dash led burned or disabled? I know my light is always on bc I don't have the sensors on the wheels anymore.

My 2005 Liberty Sport CRD does not have a EVIC.
It has never had any TPMS sensors.
There have never been any TPMS lights on the dash.

And I'm really thankful for that because I hate those stupid sensors.

2005 wasn't mandatory for TPMS, and was an option only. They also changed the frequency on the TPMS sensors from 2004 to 2005+ so make sure you get the correct ones installed. There are a few threads on here about this. If you have a 2005+ then the only way you can add TPMS sensors to the vehicle is to add in a 2004 ONLY EVIC as the sensor pickup is in the EVIC. 2005+ changed sensor pickup to the wheel wells and it's impossible to add in that way.

Both my 2005 CRD didn't have TPMS and I added those in w/ the 2004 EVIC. The in-law's 2005 limited CRD had it factory option.

This is how I added TPMS in my 2005 as well.

I agree with you. Lol. I drive with the TPMS light on bc I had to remove the sensors due to leaking on the valve stems on the custom wheels I have. Set the steering wheel do I won't see the dash light. But I'm very surprised you don't have tpms, it's the only crd I've heard of that doesn't have them...

So I have to say now that flash's yours and CATCRD's are the only one I know w/o tpms from factory, lol. I don't have evic but still the stupid light goes on...

Still not sure how the 2005 has the sensor in the wheel well. Mine has tpms in the rim. Maybe I'm missing something?

Starting in 2005 the pickup antennas were in the wheel wells. The sensor/transmitter is still in the wheel like we all know about. Many 2005s came without TPMS. I've seen a few in person. In that case the method to use is get a 2004- EVIC with the pickup antenna inside the EVIC itself, and 2004 sensors that transmit at the frequency it will receive.

UPDATE -

Well I finally got around to getting the Jeep TPMS sensor issue looked at. I first made the mistake of checking in with the Stealership, they wanted $100 to begin with and they were 'pretty sure' the thing was broke, so it was going to $200+. I said thanks and ran for the door. Called me local auto repair shop and they said they had the equipment to reprogram the computer (SKREEM is what Keith @ GDE called it) and it would be between $35-$75. SOLD!

I've now picked up the Jeep and they said that, sure enough, the Princess was not cooperating that it took a full hour of fighting with her to convince her to accept the new signals. So now 3 of the 4 tires are reading properly and it looks like the pax/rear location receiver is now not working. :furious:

So for those interested -new Dorman sensors (I don't have the model # in front of me) = $40 each and one hour labor at shop = $75

So to get all 5 sensors replaced and reprogrammed by shop expect around $300. ( this was for EVIC model with individual tire pressure readout)

And with the re-replacement of all the Etecno glow plugs I have no yellow CEL lights on the dashboard for the first time in 6 months!

TPMS sensors in the US were required on all vehicles under 10,000 lbs "sold" after 9/1/2007 and began to be phased in 10/2005. It appears that TPMS was an option on the 05 KJs and if fitted it was linked to either an instrument cluster warning light or the EVIC; if you had the deluxe EVIC then PSI is displayed for each individual tire on the ground. I think but am not totally sure that all 06 KJs had the TPMS with display options being the same as for the 05. In both model years the sensors are mounted in the tire rim and are battery powered. TPMS battery life is 5-12 years with an average of about 7; my 05 is still on the original OEM sensors but my son's 06 lost one sensor about 3 years ago and he had all new ones fitted a couple of months back when he got new tires. There is a frequency difference between US and "export" TPMS systems but not as far as I know between US 05 and 06 model years. After market options include Dorman 974-001 or Standard Motor Products TPM17A. These sensors normally do not need to be programmed; just install them and drive for like 5 miles and the system should self program; mine do when tires are rotated and my son's did when he replaced that single failed sensor.
