CRD post reassembly pre-lube question

Okay all, I've got a question.

I'd taking apart a CRD that has been sitting for a few years. The oil system needs to be thoroughly flushed.

I know that when reassembling gassers, there is a way to run the oil pump from a drill to force oil through the oil passages to pre-lube the engine.

Is there a way to prelube the CRD in a similar fashion? Anyone whose taken one of these beasties apart understands why you don't want to needlessly crank the engine over when partially unassembled...

So, how best to pre-lube?

I know when taking the top apart and replacing the rockers and lifters, I use Lubriplate assembly lube.

The only caveat being that usually this involves an oil change about 1200 miles into the procedure because the Lubriplate doesn't filter through the oil filter as well. Nor do most assembly lubes.

The oil pump is driven directly off the nose of the crankshaft.
So there is no good way to do what you are suggesting.

If you have the valve cover off, you could coat the camshaft lobes with some engine assembly lube, but kinda makes putting the cover back on really messy.
You can also give the rockers and lash adjusters a good soak in engine oil before assembly.

Cranking the engine by hand might do what you want but is kinda hard to do once everything is assembled. Likewise, after assembly, you can pull the ASD fuse and crank the motor over using the starter. Which is something you will probably have to do anyway just to prime and bleed air out of the fuel rail.
With the ASD fuse removed, the engine will crank but not start.

I want to be able to crank it long enough to force the oil through all the oil passages to potentially clear up any crud that may be residual. I suspect ample quantities of Marvel Mystery Oil will come into play.

This picture is upside down, and I can't remember which one os the oil pump, but if you were to remove the sprokect attached to the crank, you could potentially spin the oil pump by iteself. Theses are located just behind the front cover.
