Hi all,

I am looking at a 2005 Liberty Sport for my daughter. I am not familiar with the KJs so I am looking for some help.

106k miles, body and interior in great shape. The current owner claims it was in a small fender bender, he replaced the hood and grill, all else is good.

The only issues - the rear defogger and A/C, and the rear window switches don't work. The rear windows are not a big concern, but the A/C not working is a deal breaker.

Could this be something as simple as a fuse? Or is it possible that the rear defroster/AC switch is bad? Or could this be a sign of potentially deeper issues? It's a good price, but an hour away so I can't just take it to my mechanic for a once over.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Tim

The rear window switches not working could just be the child safety setting. My 02 has a "lockout" up front to inactivate the switches in the back. Could be something disconnected too. Not really sure what you mean by rear defogger/AC. Don't have that in my 02 as far as I know.

Edit: Hope the current owner isn't trying to hide some bad window regulators by locking the windows. I think they were prone to fail in the 05-06s.

Yes, there is a rear window lockout switch on the center console.

How do you know that the rear defrost isnt working?
Is the indicator light not coming on?
If so, its probably just a fuse.

AC not working could be a lot of things.
1. Bad fuse
2. Bad switch
3. Bad relay
4. Low freon
5. Bad AC pressure switches
6. Bad compressor and/or clutch

I know about the lockout switch for the rear windows - I tried it on both settings, nothing.

The rear window defogger and A/C switches - no lights come on either switch, and no cold air from the vents :(
