Hi, first timer here.

In the middle of giving my new-to-me 08 KK Limited a facelift to de-chrome it. (i can post pics if anyone's interested)

The truck's burgundy, swapping the big chrome grill cover for stock black (ebay!) , swapping the headlights to Renegade black ones…

But to avoid it going full Darth Vader blacked out, i want to add some silver metal mesh behind the black grille. Who knows, maybe it'll look cool. or super tacky.

SO, i have to dremel out the stock black horizontal louvres before putting on the mesh… noticed the two outside slots are solid, no airflow.

I'm guessing there's a reason for this, anyone happen to know it?

Think there's any harm in cutting them out? Or d'ya think i should leave those black?

It's to direct more airflow through the radiator fins themselves. The radiator doesn't span the entire width of the seven slots of the grille.

I believe the top of the passenger side blocked slot helps prevent water ingress into air box intake

Here's the result of the de-chroming -- black Renegade headlights, black grille, metal mesh inserts.

I left the two outer slots black for a smaller old-school width Jeep grille feel, but I think it's maybe a bit odd.

The grill is actually 2 pieces, meaning there is an outer skin and an inner structure. If you seprate the 2 you can fit mesh in those 2 slots.

Black Jeep logo just arrived yesterday. (Decided not to try my hand at plasti-dipping for now)

Also going to add the mesh to the two other grille slots. I think maybe as it is my KK is looking a little bucktoothed.
