In your opinions, what is the best setup for loose sand between the 05 and 06, How does the LSD compare to the TC?

Thx.

I can tell you that my '06 without an LSD sucked in 2WD yesterday in the snow. All the TC did was slow it down trying to get control of the spinning tire. I would think in sand you would want to be able to stay on the throttle keep momentum so an LSD without TC would be best. I was pissed when i found out the ESP button doesnt turn off TC too.

Resurrecting an old thread...

OTHER than the 05 has LSD vs. 06 has TC (ESP) what else is different between the 05 and 06?
Does anyone have any conclusive info on the TPMS system?

FWIW, my 06 Limited CRD is trashed (engine), but has tons of salvage. I can only find an 05 Limited CRD and want to swap some stuff as follows (wanna know if it'll all work on the 05)

- Skid plates, full Mopar set front to rear (front skid, transfer case skid, gas tank skid)
- 4 brand new tires with 4 new TPMS sensors (are the 05 and 06 sensors the same, I know my 04's aren't) or do I have to dismount and remount the rubber on the 05 wheels.
- Front tow hooks (this is almost a no brainer, should be the same, 06 and 04 are, can't imagine 05 is different)
- want to know if the floor areas are the same (custom Weathertech mats) I know that the 03's and 04's are different due to a different transmission (03's have smaller foot space on passenger side)

- are the 05's prone to having the window clips break like my 06 did (plastic clips apparently, that was NOT a fun 50 mile drive home in sub freezing weather)

- ANY other mechanical differences I might need to know?

AFAIK, the only difference between the 05 and 06 is the 06 has electronic traction control. Which effects the rear diff, rear brake lines, and ABS controller.
Not all 05 models have the TPMS. (Mine does not)

The 06s had different CAN communication between controllers, and so they don't use an FCM. I think that means the wire harness is different and ECUs aren't interchangeable.

Here's a bit of info on my destroyed '06 Limited. I was doing exactly 103km/h and for whatever reason it shifted back to 1st. Timing belt shredded, engine is screwed and who knows what damage was done to the transmission.

No TPMS? So my '04 (gasser, limited) has TPMS but an '05 might not. Interesting. Thx for that.

Nice to know. I wasn't thinking of swapping the ECU because I still don't know what caused the failure. My mechanic suggested the transmission might have lost voltage causing it to go down to first (limp mode??) However far flung that idea might be, I'm not salvaging any electronics that might have anything to do with the drivetrain. Other electronics are still good though, for instance if the new CRD has an EVIC but no hitch, I'll salvage my factory hitch and harness. Thx for the info on the ECU's.

If anyone thinks of anything else, please chime in.

Very strange for it to do that.
Usually if the transmission goes into limp mode it will get stuck in 3rd gear.
Either way, downshifting from 5th to 3rd at 65mph would not be good.
Did you have some sort of ScanGauge or OBD reader plugged in when this happened?

As long as the engine didn't kick a rod and punch a hole in the block the engine can probably be repaired. There are others here who have had a timing belt break and were able to repair the damage. Usually the rocker arms break saving the rest of the engine.
If there are no valves jammed into the pistons then usually the head and pistons can be re-used.

What about AC system? Any difference between 2005 and 2006? I want to replace everything except evaporator on my AC and the cheapest kit I find on eBay is listed for 2005 model.

Thanks.

Does the evic have the recieving antenna for the TPMS? (Edit: or are the recieving antennas are in each wheel well in 06?) Then an evic swap transferrs the part needed to read the '06 wheels. Personally never wanted TPMS.

For power window dealers were converting to stronger 05 and newer opener mechanism. It still can strip out. thats why the aftermarket repair kits were developed.

I'll solve this TPMS thing once and for all... next Monday.
Every Monday I'm at Costco and I'll ask them to look up the part number for the 05 AND 06. If they're the same part, then we know it's the same TPMS system. I already know that the '04 sensors are completely different and more expensive ($7 or $10 more each I think).
FWIW... Although I haven't checked the dealership in years, Costco had a pretty good price on replacement TPMS sensors. Worth comparing price if you need a new one.

Big difference is the ABS/Traction control in 06. That also eliminated the limited slip option. Also, I believe side airbags were introduced as an option in 06, so that is why they pillar gauge pods only fit up to 05 (made mine fit). The computer was changed a bit, that is why people with 05's are more successful with OBDII apps like Torque where the 06, the OBDII would stop responding after a period of time.

My 2005 has side airbags.

Confirmed that 2005 and 2006 TPMS sensors are the same (the parts that are in the wheels, the valve stem parts)
Or more correctly, Costco listing showed that both years have the same part number.
I'm convinced they're the same.
