You know, I once read on another forum that this place was full of lots of tools for CRD owners, and someone replied noting this place, was indeed, full of tools, hinting at some of the members. Based on the last couple of posts, I can see why that impression exists. It's shameful.

This isn't about criticizing Jeff or his product. I may end up getting one myself. It's about helpful threads with other options for those who may want to devote some funds to other things, by choice, or necessity. That isn't being cheap, and if that is your take away, move along, because the real purpose is over your head. This is about creating a better forum.

If vendors can request that DIY threads, which compete with them, be deleted, that is a big problem. Calling the mods on it isn't whining.

Except that a DIY thread is gone.

Deleted from a place that thrived from such threads.

It made this place a great place to read about How To Make our vehicles last, without going to the stealer and keeping our costs down.

This place stood out, out for that quality alone.

What's left to look forward to?

the simple thing here was that Sarges design was a conflict to someone else's item they came up with, he came right out and said that Sarges design lacked any engineering, (which was debunked by Sarges tests done to it) I guess everyone who isn't that guy must not know what they are doing. i guess maybe its time to consider another forum for me, games being played like this should not be tolerated. Sarge i appreciate the time you spent coming up with a design that was useful and thank you for offering to help us Jeeper's out! hope to catch you around sometime...i got you contact info and will talk to you sometime.

I have no idea what happened but it was good thread with good ideas from what I saw.

Feel free to message me

Is Sarge still around?

How exactly does one go about reporting a post. LOL

I've seen good forums go south over stuff like this.

I even offered to pay the vendor fee for somebody else on a different forum and was refused.

I doubt the authority on Libby CRDs is going to go south over 1 thread. Where else are you going to get your info?

I've seen forums go south in a hurry. If this is a trend, then it's not good

This is the first thread I've heard of being deleted in a little over a year of lurking on this forum. One thread does not create a trend.

If you surf to the Facebook Jeep Liberty CRD Page, you'll find that the material on the DIY CRD Hemi thermostat is posted there for all to retrieve at their leisure.

Lots of good information is being posted there from members who also frequent this forum with no fear of getting your DIY posts deleted.

The ARP stud info should be posted there and any other info that should be retained for posterity.

I never suggested that "we" deleted the thread but without us there is no forum. It was deleted on our behalf. At 2 weeks and just over 1000 views the interest in this topic is very high compared to most other topics here yet only a small handful of us are voicing their concern at this interference. This can only lead one to conclude that the majority either condone these actions of simply don't give a f***. Sarge was kind enough to take the time to properly document his modification and attempted to share it with us at no cost. Like I said, the L.O.S.T. community is not worthy of his contribution.

flman wrote:

Agreed, I've been here a bit longer than that and don't recall any threads being deleted like this. In my time here I've witnessed plenty of cost sharing projects and single SKU vendors playing fast and loose with the rules as they get their ventures started and none of their threads were deleted. Jeff was basically running his business out of L.O.S.T. for 2 years before he started contributing financially. His limited success is entirely due to the support of this forum and the L.O.S.T. community. Given this history, if Jeff did have something to do with what happened to the other thread he should be ashamed of himself  . By the way, I also don't recall seeing any aggressive, self-righteous and over-zealous vendors in years gone by either. Coincidence?

It will be interesting to see what happens to the diesel_guy86 "Ball Bearing CRD turbo" thread viewtopic.php?f=5&t=84237. He clearly has a product in mind and commercial aspirations. So far his thread has all the attributes that should be putting it on a collision course with our moderators. Of course, since he's not producing a thermostat housing, I suspect his thread probably won't suffer the same fate.

Thanks for pointing this out, I never realised it existed. Maybe it's time to move on to a better and happier place :D

Just because in the past there haven't been thread closings doesn't mean that it cannot happen now. We are a VERY small community. How many people are on this CRD forum and how many of those people have offered up products? Very few I assume with little to no overlap of competing ideas. TDF offered a commercial grade product when nobody else was. He may have talked about it for years, but it was well before these things were available to the public. He unloaded some stupid amount of money to manufacture, test and retest the HDS and I am sure he needed to make sure it was commercially viable before he dove in head first. It was not like it was worth him fabbing one up for himself and calling it a day.

I dont know what happened cause I already had my HDS and didn't care, but if there was an offer to perform the modifications for money, then I have no problem with that thread being closed. If some random person came on here and started offering to bend up some piping for elbow kits causing Weeks too lose business then they should get canned too.

I cannot imagine that if it were reposted, for informational purposed only, that it would disappear again. If it does, then I will change my mind and admit this place sucks.

When some of the most active users break out the torches and pitchforks and run off is when this place will go down the tubes, not when one thread gets deleted under questionable circumstances.. So far I have not seen enough to justify doing that.

Plus, facebook sucks.

The fact is TDF said Sarge wasn't competition, but then the thread was deleted for vendor reasons. That's sketchy, especially when the comment offering the service could have been removed. It seems like someone was threatened by competition, and asked the mods to intervene. To say someone isn't competition, then to have a competing thread deleted is unethical, and it should be called out.

Don't get me wrong, vendors should have preference. But delete the violating post, not the entire thread. To do otherwise isn't in the forums best interest.

I've been hanging out in the FB group, where there have been a couple of Tstat threads. They have gone similar to how they go here. I'm sure you know how I mean. :)

In any event, this issue came up, and TDF said he didn't ask that Sarge's thread be deleted. I have no reason not to believe him, and thought it important to update you all here.

Mass-Hole you have it right, there is not enough room in our dwindling number of CRDs to have people selling the same part.

For TDF and all his effort that no one else will ever produce even a 1/3, you know the old saying, "No good deed goes unpunished." :banghead:

Well, I am out to take a ride in my Hot running Jeep, with lots of hot coolant to spare for cabin, heat. Loving it, wish I had this stat 10 years ago.

Over the years, many including myself have offered free advise and tried to help posters with many different problems! I thought when I joined this group that was the purpose of this forum, for learning and helping one another. I have purposely stayed away from commenting on this issue due to the reasons for deleting being unknown. I find it very strange indeed that we often see posters offer new parts, services, and / or other products for monetary value without their post ever being being deleted much less the whole thread being deleted....
It is still a great forum for learning and sharing, its a shame this happened.... :( :(
