performance tune the ECU. i'm running Yeti's DIY tune{free} or many are happy with the GDE tune[not free] You'll need a HD torque converter to handle it.
Stock: 160HP, 295TQ, est. 21 avg. mpg
If you stay with the Green Diesel ECO tune, you won't *need* to replace the torque converter. 188HP, 335TQ, +2-4 mpg
If you go with the GDE Hot Tune, you WILL need to replace the torque converter. 200HP, 368TQ, +1-3 mpg
I have the ECO tune, and still have the stock TC. I get an occasional shudder when accelerating in the low 50s while in 5th. It is very limited, and doesn't bother me enough to spend a grand and a weekend.
Note that I have the GDE Transmission Control module, which holds 5th gear down to 50 mph. The stock TCM downshifts to 4th at 58 mph, so shudder would likely be even far less.
