Greetings and thanks in advance. Can anyone give any tips on how to adjust the Shift lever overdrive switch buttons working location. At first I did not think the switch worked at all as I could not disengage overdrive when the button was depressed. While doing some testing I discovered that it would disengage overdrive, but only when the lever was in reverse. Not very practical as is so obviously I need to adjust it but am at a loss as to how to go about it.

I suspect that the solution is below the plastic center console.

It's just a simple momentary action push button switch. The wire runs down the shaft to a connector below. I'd suspect either the wire has a fracture or you have a bad connection at the connector end. By pulling the lever back past reverse you put more stress on the cable and/or connector causing the circuit to break and rendering the button non-functional.

Update, I never received notice of any replies so figured I would just dive in. I originally suspected that the OD switch was designed similar to the neutral safety switch for the ignition. I tore apart the center console looking for just that and never found anything even similar. When I loosened the gearshift knob handle screw and lifted the handle off the shaft I discovered that both of the two wires insulation was stretched very thin. I gave a small tug and found they both separated in two. Apparently the wires hung up on something causing stress when shifting from Park to Drive and back through the years and they pulled and stretched to breaking. I repaired the wires and everything is working fine now. In retrospect I realize my fault was to believe the switch was never meant to work in reverse or any other gear but Drive. In reality it is a simple on/off switch and WILL work in any gear.

Upon returning to enter this update I discovered the entry from dirtmover, so thanks as you were spot on. I will check my settings to ensure I am notified of any responses to future posts.
