Here's my situation: I recently bought an 05 Jeep Liberty that I will use for work and play. For fun I surf and for work I do underwater research. Both mean that I'm frequently in the water, someplace an electronic key shouldn't go. For now, I'm hiding the key on the outside of the jeep (not a particularly wise or safe thing to do). Zip-lock or other waterproof bags won't do. So I'm wondering, can I get a non-electronic key made and use that to just open the door? And then keep the electronic key inside the car? I also thought about one of those magnetic "key safes", wouldn't the heavy duty magnet damage the key's electronics?
