Hey guys. I took my KK out doing some off-road stuff, a little bit of 4x4 testing it out since I bought it. As I was moving around, a buddy noticed some whitish smoke coming from underneath the body. I looked and it was coming out right between the oil pan and transmission as pictured below. As I would revved it, it would pour out and then slow back down again at idle. I checked my levels and they are all good. Also, I am not having any leaks, zero, and I cannot replicate it on the street. I still smell it on start up, a little burning oil smell.. But like I said no leaks. No check engine lights are on and it seems to be running just fine. Any ideas? Thanks.

Wouldn't think much of it if no fluid leaks and good levels. Sometimes cars do funny things without reoccurring again.

I've been driving stick for a long time but this is my first 4x4. Maybe I did ride it a bit hard and that would explain it I suppose.. If it starts slipping soon then we'll know lol.

Yep. As long as fluid levels go and no drips on the ground i think the clutch is the culprit in this one.

If it's your first time driving stick offroad then it's possible you burned the clutch a little. Did it smell like clutch? Without any leaks it's what I would assume. If you had an auto I'd start thinking about the rear main or other gaskets back there...but you don't.

Sorry, I missed it in your signature.
Sounds like your clutch smoked a little.
Mine did not slip at all, then BOOM!
The clutch disintegrated.

It would have been nice to have had it slip a little before it went. Could have saved me some $$$. When they blow up like mine did, you have to pretty much replace everything.

^^ that's probably because I updated my signature after I posted that
Well thanks for the info. Hopefully mine doesnt blow up also.
I knew there would be a learning curve coming off the street by either way it'll be fun.

LOL you got me with that one.
I think one of my contributing factors to the blow up was the amount I tow with it.

Gotcha. Actually that brings me to another question. Is there a way to tell what packages/specs I have for my jeep from the VIN? I plan on putting a hitch receiver on and it would be nice to know how much I can pull...

You can get your build specs from the Jeep website if you have your VIN. Here's a guide:

Your VIN build you get on the Jeep site is not complete. Best to go to your dealer and ask for a build sheet.
For towing? Well that is a good question... CDJ does not even know for sure, since the owners manuals changed several times depending on what year you have.
Follow this link to download a free copy of the owners manuals.

^^ Since you said you tow a lot, what kind of stuff and weight are you pulling?

Our boat is a 1989 SeaRay. 4.3L inboard/outboard. 18' long @ 2800 Lbs dry. To get to the lake we have to go up and over a 1200' pass. No issues...

Fire wood trailer 5x12x3. No idea how heavy this load was, but just look at the trailer SQUAT!

The 3.7 tows great, but is not a speed demon. Slow and steady (60 Mph) gets you there.
