Hope to Love That Torque

Well bought my 4th jeep, but my first non Wrangler. I bought a Liberty with a dropped valve and a used engine to replace the wounded one. Now Stock Sucks so a 2 1/2" lift, 265/75R16 tires, new up graded torque, GDE engine and trans tune. Questions for the forum members would you recommend an EGR delete from Sasquatch. I'am going to do light snow plowing limited trailer use 19' outboard or 2 snowmobiles. Going to ask GDE which tunes they recommend. Would welcome anyone's 2 cents. :JEEPIN:

you only want to go with 245/75 16's with 2.5" lift, and that requires pounding pinch welds, and cutting plastic most likely.

EGR delete is great, and will make access to that side of the engine reasonable. Also eliminates several water leak and exhaust leak possibilities.

I've towed about 3,000 pounds and barely felt it. Pulls so strong better than my stick shift Explorer. GDE tunes turn off the EGR electronically eliminating the need to pull egr and FCV valve.

EGR delete. Absolutely. Like mentioned above, the delete removes the risk of exhaust and coolant leaks and make it much easier to get at your glow plugs. You do not want to have any soot going into your intake manifold.

If you get a GDE tune you do not "have" to do Weeks elbow kit to keep soot out of the engine although the kit does make access to glow plugs much easier. If you don't do Weeks kit GDE says you can reroute the EGR cooling hoses (I'd do a 90 degree fitting where the hose comes out of the block and connect that hose directly to the metal line over the front of the engine) which eliminates coolant leaks points in those lines and the EGR cooler also when/if you do glow plugs without the Weeks kit IMHO it's worth replacing the intake elbow bolts with studs and nuts to make for less difficult future removal (studs are metric but available at any decent parts store).

Im all for replacing the elbow with the weeks stage 2 kit. cleans up the engine bay up and pulls alot of complicated/unnecessary parts off the engine. Totally worth it

The lift I'm going to get is the Rocky Road budget lift with long rear shocks. I was leaning towards egr delete just to make things easier and the Mopar rebuilt euro convertor.

Most folks here on LOST dont like RockyRoad products, mainly due to poor customer service.
I believe that the EGR delete is a must do.
If you cant find the euro, a torque converter for a RAM 1500 Hemi is a good alternative.
255-70-16, 245-75-16, and 265-70-16 are good tire choices.

First and foremost: Get rid of the EGR, either block it off with a plate or totally remove EGR valve, EGR cooler, and FCV with the Weeks kit.

Well here's an update. Sasquatch weeks 1 & 2 installed (getting EGR low flow code) Timing belt kit ID parts K&N air filter cat delete. The Rocky Road with upper control arms and rear shocks went on with no problem, Love the Stance 3" front 2 1/2" rear measured when done. Alignment went well drives and rides great I'am very pleased with the Rocky Road kit. It now has Crager Soft 8 16X7 and AT51 Kumho P245/75R15 just trimmed front plastic and no rubbing . Haven't done pen and paper milage but computer 24.5 :JEEPIN:

You did the right thing!!! One of the best mods you can do to your Jeep CRD. :wink:

Note: The EGR valve can and will leak by even if it is disabled with a tune; the only sure way to 100% guarantee no exhaust soot entering the intake is to remove the EGR system totally or install a metal block off plate or plug. Added benefits of totally removing the EGR valve and EGR cooler along with plugging the cooling line on both ends with the Weeks kit is the elimination of several potential leak points and easier access to the glow plugs should you ever need to change them.... :roll:

This is normal. If you have the stock ECM calibration, your check engine light will illuminate after installation–your engine will run just fine, but your ECM will trigger a CEL because it isn’t receiving the expected communications from the EGR valve and FCV valve. An re-calibrated ECM tune is needed to turn it off. You can choose a turn-key, commercially-available tune OR you can flash your own ECU using a laptop, free software and an inexpensive data cable. There are even tunes available for download that you can use completely free.

You can pound the pinch weld and trim plastic to fit 245/75/16s on a stock height KJ. I imagine 2.5" of lift would work much better with that size than stock.
