Who ever put in the new computer probably forgot the "tell" it that the vehicle has cruise control. I'm guessing a bit but installing a new computer includes programming the computer with the vehicle VIN so I presume who ever did the install has access to the appropriate programming tool so go back to them and have them turn cruise on; should be no charge as this should have been done as part of the install.

A DIY Yeti tune can delete all the EGR codes from the OBC and get rid of the EGR DTC (check engine light)!
Instructions listed on this thread:

Many on this forum are running his tunes with great success.... :D :D
A reflash with the correct tune for your vehicle may even get your cruise back working.

Well, my son installed the new computer by watching a video on youtube. I am not computer literate enough to do that diy yeti tune.

GDE can turn on the cruise control if you mail the ECU into them. I had them do this for me when I sent them my ECU to get my hot tune. I assume that when one of the servicing dealers flashed an update to the jeep the may have disabled it so it was not working when I bought it.

You cannot activate the cruise control via GDE's flash tool.

I checked on that GDE tune. Way too expensive for me and besides I wouldn't have the use of my jeep if I had to mail the ecu to them, would I?

See my first reply. If whoever installed the new ECU cannot/will not program that ECU to turn on cruise at no charge then:
1. any DCJ dealer with the appropriate tool can and some members like SirSam have the tool - dealer would likely charge ca. $100
2. if you send your ECU to GDE for one of their tunes (EcoTune = more hp/torque; vastly less soot; 10-20% better mpg) they will likely turn on the cruise at no extra charge. Yes you will be without your CRD but turn around by GDE, unless they are on vacation, is extremely rapid. USPS priority mail small flat rate box, depending on where you are relative to GDE, is 2-3 days out and same back. Ex. mail Thursday they get Sat/program/send back and you get it Monday or maybe Tuesday.

Well, I guess I'll see if I can find out how to remove the ecu. I am totally ignorant of these things, being more comfortable with a 54 chevy. It sounds like that eco tune would be a good deal. I have had the weeks stage 1 and 2 done on it and steel glow plugs installed, so I guess I should go ahead with that eco tune. Thanks for all the info.

Email GDE to confirm on turning on cruise. To remove the ECU IIRC it's easier to undo the 2 nuts holding the mounting plate to the sidewall (look down just in front of the ECU) then pull the ECU with mounting plate out and unbolt ECU from mounting plate to mail in. IIRC you need to undo the ECU electric connections first so 1) disconnect battery; 2) flip the retention levers on the ECU electrical connections; 3) once the ECU is out I recommend securing a "Baggie" over the electrical connections to protect them from water while the ECU is off for tuning.

Two thoughts:
1. EcoTune is fine for daily driving and did fine for my son and I cross country (I-10 Tempe, AZ to Tally, FL and Tally to Kearney, NE) with 2 in a fully loaded KJ with kayak on top pulling a fully loaded 5X8 uHaul. IMHO any more tune would need an upgraded torque convertor.
2. do you still have the old ECU? If so you might consider also sending that to GDE on the off chance it is not "really" dead.

Ya the ECU you installed was not configured for cruise. We added cruise years back to CATCRDs jeep, it did not work at first, but later after some dealer visit it worked.

IIRC after a firmware flash the ECU is put into learn mode where it will determine if its an auto or manual, and cruise or not, along with some other options probably.

Hence, I think you are stuck untill you get someone who can do a firmware reflash.

I don't have the old ecu. I mainly use the jeep to tow my r-pod, but have been using it more to run around in. I"ll have to get my son to help me with that ecu, I wouldn't know it if I was looking right at it.

Can someone tell me where the ecu is located or where I can find a picture showing it? I don't even know what it looks like.

Starting from the front right (N. American model) just behind the grill you have a rectangular black plastic box which is the power distribution center; behind that is the battery; behind the battery bolted to a mounting plate bolted to the wheel well inside wall is the ECU. It's got 2 rather large electrical plugs on the back (firewall) side (have to flip levers to remove each plug). To remove it's best to undo the 2 nuts/bolts holding the mounting bracket to the wall as undoing the 4 nuts/bolts holding the ECU to that plate while on the vehicle is very difficult.

Thanks!! My son is in Texas on business so he couldn't help me. GDE told me that they can enable the cruise control.
