On my trip to the Poconos today the tire pressure light came on, flashed for a few minutes, then stayed on. I pulled off the highway and checked all 4 tires and they were all 32+ psi (no TPMS in my spare). I topped them off at 34 psi at a rest area just to be sure. Every time I stop the light turns off, but after driving for a while, especially at 55+, the light will now come back on.

Ok, so do you think the batteries in the tire pressure sensors are crapping out? It's an '08 with 50K miles.

What needs replacing, the batteries or the whole TPMS sensor (x4)? What kind of job is that? I imagine that the tires probably have to be off the rims to get to the sensor, which would need to be remounted and balanced. :2cents: :2cents: :2cents: If so I may wait until I replace my tires in another 25K miles.

I would love to hear how other people have dealt with this issue.
Thanks,
-LFH

Do you know for sure that the spare doesn't have a sensor?
I had the light come on exactly this time last year, just as the temp started to change, and it was my spare.
The pain in the booty, is that the valve is facing up, so you have to lower the tire to check/fill it.
I flipped my spare over, so it takes only a second to check now.

My spare had a sensor in it. Whole assembly needs to be changed if the batteries are dead. Tires do have to be broken down to changed.

My KK came with a doughnut spare, which had no sensor. Last year I replaced it with a full size spare using a 16" steel rim from a first generation liberty. Again, no sensor. So I think it must be one of the original 4.

Yeah, the tpms sensors are so annoying! My wife's brand new Patriot only has 1,600 miles on it and the low tire light is on! All 4 tires are 33psi, it's ridiculous about these things!! The biggest kicker is that Pa is getting ready to make the inspectors only pass the vehicle if all the tpms are working properly. You can't bypass them either or even put regular valve stems in and have the light disabled. It's kind of irritating! :x

And no, you can't put a battery in an old sensor. The only thing I know of is that Sears has what they call a "rebuild kit" for the factory tpms. It will save you some money from having them put a whole new unit in the wheel. Good luck!
