Hi guys,
At 163000 miles my KJ makes quite a few noises which I am fine with.
However, since 10 days it started to make seriously loud whining noise at deceleration only and at high speed , 75 miles/ hour.
It's very loud, seems coming from the front.
I read a lot on what could be the origin of these noises but am still not convinced:
- break discs: ok could be, but why only at deceleration? Disk are not less loose at acceleration
- alternator belt: yes why not, but the noise seems really metallic, but ok, why not.
- transmission : most likely to be the cause. But one thing I don't get. I drive 90 % of the time in 2 WD , meaning rear propulsion. Then first, why would the front diff wear out faster than the rear one? And second why do we have a noise at deceleration and nothing at acceleration ? As the power goes to the rear diff. There is no pressure on the front = no difference between acceleration and deceleration , no?...
Anyway, if anyone has some good leads, thanks for helping.
Here is a vid of the noise.
