If it was running, why was the head pulled again?

Oil to coolant to oil leak.

I put the motor back together, Started up and ran fine for about 30 seconds, then a loud pop in the area of the #1 injector. Now there is a engine noise from the front top end of the motor. The motor appears to be running smoothly.I raised the valve cover for inspection. The rockers and valves are in place. The rockers at piston 1 are new . The #1 injector is cover in soot. The rest are clean. Any suggestions?

Sounds like the injector may not be fully seated. Did you use new copper crush washers when reinstalling?

No I did not. Also just noticed the orange O-ring was damaged.

You have to use new crush washers on each injector, but you also have to clean the injector bores and especially the seat at the bottom.

It should still have been pretty clean from when I did this work before. Offhand, I'd suspect insufficient torqueing of the injector retaining bolt & bracket.

That reminds me, Thibs: did your guy find the cause of the oil/coolant co-mixing? Oil cooler, cracked head, or other?

Thanks for the advice. new washers and proper torque fix it.
Seems to be running fine. Looks like a new freeze plug fixed the oil/coolant mixing

Which freeze plug was it? Location?

Pretty frustrating that it was just a freeze plug after all the other work done on that thing.

Tell me about it. getting the head checked was an after thought, I believe the freeze plug was on the head around the second and third piston.

Okay, thanks. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go yell obscenities at the top of my lungs for a while. Later...
