Amazon says Mobil 1 M1-301 filter doesn't fit 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD.

It does. It just the oversize filter that some of us use.

Motorcraft FL-1A is a decent filter and available virtually everywhere.
Wix 51515 is good too.

But the M1-301 is superior.

One of the best oil filters on the market today designed for for use with synthetic oils is the Purolator PSL30001 Synthetic Spin-On Oil Filter....
It is an oversize filter that fits the Jeep CRD perfectly!!!!
It is available from several different sources including Amazon, Advance Auto Parts, and eBay....

How is a filter "designed for synthetic oils" exactly? Any filter is a microscopic porous substrate to trap objects larger than the pores. They all function the same, just at different levels of effectiveness based on the size of the holes versus what they are catching.

Has to do with their components and construction!
From their site:
Purolator: wrote:
Purolator Synthetic oil filters were designed specifically for synthetic oil users. This high premium filter provides you with the longest lasting engine protection within the Purolator line.
The media in Purolator Synthetic Oil Filters is wire-backed. That means there's a wire-mesh that provides extra support to the media so that it remains intact and durable. It's also 100% full synthetic media with our innovative SmartFUSION Technology™, featuring a fully integrated, polymer reinforced filter media so it's designed to work best with synthetic oils. The media in Purolator Synthetic Oil Filters is also 99%* efficient which means it removes 99% of all the dirt and junk that gets into your oil. 99%! AND, it's designed to trap and hold up to 27 grams of that dirt and junk that could get into your engine and cause major repairs. So what does all this mean? Purolator Synthetic Oil Filters are a long-lasting filter, providing engine protection for 10,000 miles.

LOL, I am sure its just marketing, but I do think that the "Synthetic" filters are usually just higher end so they use the Synthetic name to associate it with better oils. Like WIX has their standard 51515 and a 51515XP that is sythetic media.

M1-301 is a great filter, rounds out total capacity to a even 7qts of oil. It has synthetic media inside as well. Same filter I used for over 200k miles on a vw Passat turbo as well. All running m1 0-40. CRD has 175k on it now. (GDE tune since about 50k) Oil test have come back great. 6k oil changes with all long trip driving. Wix xp (5155 I think) is a similar filter with synthetic media you can also get in a bulk pack cheaper. Actuall just changed oil and went to Rotella t6 0-40 due to it being on sale for $19 a gallon. Fingers crossed but based on reading here it's good to go.

X2. I've used this for quite some time now too. More surface area to collect filth. Just be sure to add extra oil to accommodate the larger volume.
