Did a little digging; best I can tell the Mercedes emblem sensor on the air box tells the ECM the barometric pressure of the incoming air which allows the ECM to make adjustments to boost and fueling depending on the barometric pressure... Found an old post where Yeti explained it as such!!!
Makes sense...

I believe the ECU has its own internal pressure sensor for tuning adjustments based on ambient pressure. At least that is what I heard from everyone I've seen searching around the internet.

If that is the case, then what function does the sensor on the air box perform?

Its obviously not that important becuase its disabled in the gde tunes.

I believe that its intended purpose was to sense air filter restriction.
