Skid plates

Im looking to start getting my liberty trail ready. I think skid plates are a good start. Is the mopar the best to go with or is there a more stout aftermarket option?

It does look like the engine skid off a KJ will fit all year liberty's. But if im going to spend as much as they are asking for new skid I want to see if there is a tougher option out there.

There are other options you can do. Skid Row and 4XGuard specifically should fit. Although...they're hundreds of dollars. Versus the $100-125 you'll spend on MOPAR. My MOPAR skids have taking some awful beatings but have otherwise kept it all good. When I get back from deployment I'm going to trash them and fab some full length belly skids though.

My factory skids have taken an absolute beating and haven't dented or otherwise been horribly damaged. Just some scratches and gouges from rocks.

The Mopar skids have done great for what I do. Mostly I'm on logging roads and Jeep trails, not rock crawling. I can't complain either. The OEM skids have impacted various rocks on the trail and even a drive shaft that fell off an old pickup in front of me on the street, and no real damage.

Well I got them on order...I wish they were only $125...but in canadian money its going to cost $300 or so....best deal I could find. Now to find a deal on the rad skid...those seem a little harder to find.

I put the mopar skids on mine and on the trail, they have taken a few hits. Worst though was when I tried to cross a parking lot and thought I would climb over a "median" all was well till it dropped. BAM! :dizzy:

Put a nice ding right where the transfer case is. Not bad though. Can't see them the ONE thing I don't care much for is the front skid picks up lots of mud where the oil is drained and once it gets packed and if your engine is hot, you get a nice stink till the mud is washed out.

I just ordered the 3 factory MOPAR plates from my dealer (well 4 in total but one is a bridge piece). The bridge and two others were under $100 a piece but the fuel tank ran at $402! Anybody else gotten that price or did I just get sucker punched?

People have paid less in the past, but I heard that Mopar has discontinued the skid plates for the KK. You are probably a victim of supply and demand.

I was told that at least three of them were on the "vintage" parts list. That may have something to do with it.

I paid about $50 for trans and transfer case each and then $150 for engine. I wish the gas tank one wasnt so much. most likely not going to get that one.

If you have a buddy who can weld I'd recommend getting a sheet of 3/16" or 1/4" steel and dropping the gas tank holder down and tracing and cutting and welding the sheet to the bottom of it. The stock "skid" is weak and cheap. This isn't the best of fixes but it gets the job done pretty well.

I can weld good so it would be a fun project.

Here's a good thread describing how to lower the gas tank hanger so you can weld the plate to the bottom of it in your shop.
