2nd Annual OBX Run - October 8th, 2005
The Mid-Atlantic / Carolina LOST Annual romp along the Outerbanks of North Carolina. No skids, No lift, No problem. The run is on Saturday and leaves early in the morning. The group will travel up the coast, on the coast in the white sands of the OBX, past fisherman and lighthouses. Around noon we'll stop to grill up some lunch and maybe catch some dinner. Bring your beach toys or fishing gear. After a long lunch, we'll continue up the beach until it's time to go find a place to eat. Get a hotel with the other LOST or camp down near the beach. Sunday is yours for playing or going home.

Communication
Channel 6 CB and FRS (CB preferred)

Where to meet
Kitty Hawk Kites - location #8 at 8 am.
http://www.kittyhawk.com/aboutus/where.cfm
Ramp 49 at 9 am.
Somewhere on the beach later. Just listen for the CB chatter.

Where to stay
Campground in Frisco ($20 /night)
http://www.nps.gov/caha/camping99.htm
The camp ground has clean toilets and cold water showers. There are off the ground "fire pits" and picnic tables. Camping surface is sand. Usually one or two tent areas per campsite. Paved road around the camp area. There is a dune between the beach and the campsite. The site was pretty quiet and very dark at night. The noisest residents are the crickets. I believe they took credit cards.

Hotel TBA

What you need
Bring a cooler for your lunch on Saturday. I'll have "The Grill" for cooking at the waters edges.
No special equipment needed for your Jeep. 4x4 is recommended, not sure if you can do it in 2 wheel drive.

Well, I don't know what's going on with the Carolina group. Activity has almost dropped off to nil.

However, I am always up for off-roading.

I still have the first weekend in October free for hitting the beach.
Anyone game?

Man, I wish I could. Went to Virginia Beach a few weeks ago and now I dying to go back down that way.

Keep me posted. I've never been there, but it is high on my list. It will all depend on the job & finances.

Outer Banks are on the edge of North Carolina. It's a state below the Mason-Dixon line.

Here's some government information
http://www.nps.gov/caha/

I camped in Frisco last time, while others stayed in hotels.
Nice campsites. A little small. No warm water. Pretty much right on the beach.

Last year we met up and just drove up and down the beach.
Found a nice scenic spot to stop and had lunch, did some fishing, relaxing, etc. I have a portable grill for the cooking.
We also stopped by 2 light houses and took some pictures.
Later we had dinner.

Nothing too difficult. You don't need skids or a lift.
You should probably bring something to do during the afternoon break. i.e. fishing pole, kite to fly, etc...

Like I mentioned above, I stayed at a campsite Friday and Saturday night and the others stayed in a hotel.
The run was just on Saturday, as it takes awhile for people to get to the outer banks.

Nail down those dates for me... If I can make it I will - never miss a chance to play in the sand and I'll bring my surf fishing gear...

How far south are we talking? If we do something towards the northern parts it would be easier for me to get there... probably won't be able to get out of school early on Friday.

I was thinking of the 8th, but we could take a poll to see if the 1st or the 8th would be better.

It will be near Hatteras Light house, I can't seem to find the address.

Maybe James can chime in on the place we met last year and do a Google Map on how to get there.

Hi there! The 1st works better for me but with some rearranging of my schedule I could probably do the 8th. Sounds like fun. I can't wait to see how my Libby does in the sand.

October 8th works the best for Jeff and myself. Jeff cannot do it the 1st because of prior arrangements and if I go down the 8th, I have that monday off from school. Im really hoping we can do this the 8th.

Sorry folks, I've been at Camp Jeep the last few days so I haven't had a chance to check in. October 8th works for me. Columbus Day weekend is a good time to get down there because most of the tourists are gone and the weather is still decent. The majority of us met last year at Kitty Hawk Kites in Nags Head across from Jockey's Ridge State Park. Dean and Henry met us at Ramp 49 in Frisco. We'll see what kind of trouble we can get into in October. I'll try to get everybody more info on KHK later on.

James

I just voted for the 8th - and I hope I can make it. I just agreed to teach a class on Saturdays but I don't know when it starts. I'll give my substitute a heads up today, just in case! Might be a nice touch if I mentioned it to my husband as well...

Can you bring dogs on the beach?

Sharon
