So I am at a complete loss at this point I have a CRD with 161 000 kms ,
I had a squeal when under torque so the ac compressor was replaced noise went away for about 1000kms
it returned serpentine belt was bouncing around , Easy peasy replaced tensioner and serpentine belt,
problem went away again
Now problem is back yet again at Idle the it shakes there is not to much movement in the actual belt but when the ac or heat is on it has that noise again it rattles at idle and a little shake in the belt it is not on side of the tensioner it is on the side of the ac compressor when I turn on AC this gets 10 times worse and I get the squeal as well , I am not mechanical , however since I have already replaced the obvious I am kinda stumped and NO ONE seems to know, I am thinking it is possibly the alternator clutch .
I am located In BC Canada
I am at a total loss on this one any ideas ??? I have a love hate relationship going with my CRD rite now , I am also blowing out a doo doo ton of black smoke infact my old mans got a deleted dodge and I blow more coal outta my Liberty than he does outta his jacked up dodge bwahaha

Welcome to LOST

The CRD is commonly in Love/Hate relationships - you are not alone

of the things that fail on the serpentine belt - the more common is the alternator pulley - it's a one way clutch to keep the vibration from damaging the alternator - not sure that it would cause a squeal - but if it seized it might be an issue.

second -not so common fail is the harmonic balancer - it's the big pulley at the bottom of the belt - inside to out is a rubber bond - tends to break down over time - does make noises - easy to pull - serpentine belt + 4 bolts.

neither would cause black smoke - too much fuel.

at any point in troubleshooting - did you try running for a minute - not too long with the serpentine belt off - to make sure that's the problem??

I have not tried running it without the serpentine belt on, Never thought to do that I will try it , I have had it off and spun all of the pullies none of them seem to be lagging or getting held up , they all spin pretty freely , I can only think that perhaps the AC compressor is faulty or the clutch on the front of the ac compressor is pooched I bought this vehicle and this part was "replaced" as it was found on inspection to be faulty . It does look bran new though. I just don't want to go replacing everything in the front or double replacing things the tensioner I have has a parts warrenty so that's good But its not that . Is there any way on this site to uplink a video ?

HOWEVER what you say makes total sense if the alternator pully is going and than the rubber is worn on the other it would probably cause everything else to keep going hence the reason why there seems to be so much torque or struggle I don't know how else to word that

ike oh and black smoke def unrelated I should have been more clear I plan on deleting this but one problem at a time than I have to figure out where to get all the crap to delete it and make sure I don't have a bunch of codes going off inside :)

Threads I saw on Harmonic Balancer and AC pulley - both tend to start with rattling.

WWDiesel's http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=81214

KeighJeigh http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=39287

not sure of a good diagnosis technique - when mine had problems I just pulled it off - 1/2" impact was quick.

(I suspect someone will have a better test)

I am guessing your probably on the rite track and this is something I can do myself I will order a Harmonic balancer and go from there my guess is your probably rite , and most likely the alternator clutch as it sounds Not healthy

Hopefully this will solve my problem

Alrighty party people Dealt with this tody . Def my alternator pully pooched and alternator seized as well whoch I find so very odd since pully was spinning free as a bird .
I now have a much more quit tracker pppprrr and my tensoner has settled back down to its normal and resonable amount of vibration will however be keeping a close eye on that tensoner to make sure there was not to much ware put on it .

Now onto my egr removal bwahaha
