Hello all, been creeping on here for a long time. Finally deciding to introduce myself and ask some questions. I recently got a 2008 KK, it was always in the family. It has 91k miles on it. To my knowledge its only had scheduled oil changes and brake pads done, also water pump was changed 5k miles ago. The jeep runs fine but its time to do much needed service to it now.

Heres my to do list so far:
- Oil/filter change
- Air filter change. Thinking k&n drop in or something like that
- Replacing all the spark plugs
- Drain and flush the coolant
- Test the battery and alternator
- Check all hoses and connections
- Change the brake fluid, check pads and rotors

Anything else I should do or check?

Welcome to LOST! Have fun exploring the site. Modding your Jeep can turn into an addictive habit! But doing maintenance yourself will also save $$. Lots of good info on here for both.

There are a number of good resources for how-to threads compiled here:
http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=104&t=80240
This will hopefully help and also give you some ideas.

All the best! Let us know if there's anything we can do to help you with your KK.

On top of all the other things mentioned, check your ball joints. Really easy to test. Before you remove the front tires try to wiggle it with your hands at 12 and 6 o clock. If she moves it's about time for some new ball joints.

Thanks everyone! I will definitely be checking the how tos regularly. Also thanks for the tip with the ball joints.

Should I do a complete coolant flush, or just drain the radiator? Is there a write up somewhere on that I don't see it on the how to page. Thanks again.

- Oil/filter change
- Air filter change. Thinking k&n drop in or something like that GOOD PAPER FILTER ACTUALLY WORKS BETTER AT FILTRATION THAN A k&n.
- Replacing all the spark plugs COPPER CORE ONLY NO PLATS, DOUBLE PLATS
- Drain and flush the coolant AT 91,000 WOULD ALSO DO THE HOSES AND THERMOSTAT HOAT ONLY COOLANT OF COURSE
- Test the battery and alternator
- Check all hoses and connections
- Change the brake fluid, check pads and rotors GOOD TO CHANGE THE BRAKE FLUID SOMETHING THAT MANY DO NOT DO

Anything else I should do or check?

GREAT LIST
good luck and have fun

I'd recommend a complete flush. You can do it in your driveway by using a garden hose and some rags to flush everything out.

Here's a quick reference for everything water pump/thermostat related:
viewtopic.php?f=104&t=82714

You really only need to remove lower radiator hose to drain and then remove the upper hose. Then wrap a rag around the head of the hose and stuff the whole head into the lower portions of both the engine and radiator until it's clean water. Also, best way for radiator is to remove it and tip it upside down, but not necessary since your coolant isn't bad.

Also, pretend that the radiator's drain cock doesn't exist. It's all plastic and once that seal is broken it's never the same again.

Plan for atleast 45min to burp the entire coolant system. Just stand there and keep topping off the radiator as it burps out more air. Engine needs to get all the way heated up and once it is, turn on your cabin heater full blast.

NAMoulton1 Thanks for info on the coolant flush. Videos were helpful.

Replaced the rear brake bleeder screw, cause it was leaking. So while doing that I checked the ball joints and rear passengers side seems to have a slight wiggle. Guess that's going on my list soon lol.

Use a vacuum filler on the cooling system. Eliminates all the farting around bleeding the system. They are cheap and will work on all vehicles.

Bleeding the coolant system is so easy and quick. You dont need to stand there burping the air out, which works but takes a lot of time. Mopar put a allen head type screw in plug in a handy convenient soot to bleed the air put quickly. Its on too of the metal housing that the upper radiator hose connects to, on the engine side. Engine off, hoses tight, petcock closed, remove the allen headed plug from metal housing, pour coolant in radiator and watch hole where plug was removed from. Go slow once you have poured a gallon or so in or you may waste a bit running out of the hole. Stop pouring coolant and once it runs out with no aur bubbles, put plug back in and continue filling it up. Youre done after that, but I would still run the engine a while watching the temp gauge and checking levels.
