The wife is around 22K on ours, '05 Sport. We bought it almost a year ago. I think it's a mid Feb. build date.

So far we've had 2 EGR's replaced, but the second was the 'new' revision and is holding up well.

All the current flashes are in (just had those done).

Replaced both lower front ball joints and the rear track bar joint to diagnose a 'clunking' noise upon stopping and starting. Turned out to be a loose passenger side motor mount.

Had the rear brakes start smoking just the other night. Turned out to be mis-adjusted e-brakes.

It's been in the shop I think 6 times now, for about 3 days each time, except the e-brake issue - that only took a day.

We've not had the tranny filter TSB done, but I need to check the build date of the tranny first.

Other than a bit of bucking at 60 mph like many others have, it's been a great vehicle and we really love it.

Too bad about the stupid issues (motor mount, ball joints, e-brake). I can deal with the EGR thing.

Chris

We we bought ours I complained about having to pull it out so far to get it to hold on level ground. The tech said it was suppose to be that way, I thought at the time the guy must be dumb as a rock or think I am stupid. I still haven't had the diesel tech or couple other tech's look at the thing, I just figured the wife never parks on a hill anyway. But will have the other teh check when he does the EGR Flow Control replacement.

Got 25,000 on my 05 Limited after about 7 months. No major problems other than the 0039 code I just got, think its the fuel filter and most important was having the Sirius radio reciever replaced due to static!

Man you should have bought a VW Polo, and saved enough in a year to pay for the Polo.

If I'm not mistaken you provided an indepth description with pictures on the installation of the Pro Vent. Even with this installed you still had the infamous EGR failure. What can be done other than an open crankcase while we wait for the Old Navy CCV. The Provent was to prevent the oil mist going to the EGR. intercooler and EGR throttle control. By taking this precaution, how did the EGR fail and will the installation of a CCV be beneficial.

Even Provent filter or the future Old Navy CCV filters are not or will not be 100% effective in removing the oil, but should probably remove 97% or more of the oil. I doubt the oil is causing the failure anyway, maybe oil and soot mixed will and maybe just soot alone will do the job. That said I believe the failures are not really the combo of soot and oil, yes it will eventually clog the valve, intake and head maybe, but way down stream in the life of the engine. I think we are just blessed with a poor quality of mfg or a poor design of EGR and The Flow Control Valve. This fall with the introdution of ULSD it will bring a reduction in the soot causing the problem of clogging the intake system or doing caustic damage to the combustion chamer. The soot and oil will no longer be a factor and may help eliminate EGR & EGR Flow Control Valve failures if they were indeed the cause, if it continues then we know the problem is not the fuel or oil.

Just under 2500 miles. Other than the tranny TSB, no other problems yet.

Almost 13k in 9 months and no problems except for winshield washer does not work and decelleration shutter that I am used to from my Jetta TDI. Just ordered a SP stage 3 module so we shall see what that unglues.

I had the no washer fluid problem early on. The hose from the washer pump came off the fitting just past where it goes into the area below the squirter nozzles on the passenger side. The tech simply lifted up the black plastic hpusing and pushed the hose back on. No problems since. He was able to ID the problem quickly as the squirter motor was working and fluid was leaking on the passenger side below where the hose goes into the w/w housing. Took all of about 5 min.

Had the same shudder problem in our Jetta TDI and it had to have the tranny replaced at 50k miles, probably due to TC not retaining fluid overnight (this was not unusual problem) and would rev engine slightly before driving off. The tech that rebuilt it said if we had driven it like most people, start it, drop it in gear and take off it would have failed in less then 10,000 miles. He said that they ocassionlly had a bad one that did this and they usually failed under 10k miles, because they have their TC burned and chewed up.

Do you think that Amsoils Diesel Fuel Additive would help with the problem if it can be caused by "soot"? Not only does it lubricate and clean injectors, it reduces smoke...ie soot...?
