I charged the battery while it was still in the car and now I have an engine code that will not go away. 2006 CRD.

P1648 Glow Plug Module Internal.

I went ahead and replaced the glow plug module and the light didn't go away, the light is still on.

Checked all the glow plugs and they tested good.

Engine light is still on, any ideas?

I believe that the Glow Plug Module has to be re-programmed when the plugs are changed between 7 volt and 5 volt so is your module programmed correctly.... or is it the ECM that gets re-programmed?

Check that there is a good ground on pin 7 and +12 volts on pin 11 :?

My 2002 CRD 11 volt plugs does not have a module..just two large relays!

I may have a grounding problem.

I've located a few connections in the engine compartment that I've cleaned and reconnected......anyone have a list of where all the grounding connections are located? Where to look?

Have you checked the ground geordi identified behind the left front headlight on top of the inner fender (under battery tray)? It contains several ground wire ring terminals under a single bolt at this location... Still not sure what all is grounded at this location!

Looked at FSM WD and all it says is Glow Plug Module is grounded on top of engine?

You may have already seen this?
From my notes:
"P1648 - glow plug internal failure ( code is reset after X cycles by ECU)"

I may have found the problem at the wire harness behind the fuel head.

I Removed the harness wrapping and exposed the wires, moved them a bit and voila... the code went off.

Not sure which wire it is yet but I am on the verge of victory.
