Has anyone just unplugged the viscous heater? And would it turn the CEL on?

My VH relay has been unplugged for several years....and it does not trip any DTC's...

Edit:
Pap is correct, it does store a code only visible with a scanner tool. NO visible DTC's or check engine light will illuminate due to unplugging the VH relay...

Anyone have a image of the re-routed hoses after the viscous heater has been removed? This was one of the next things on my list to do.

I think you just pull the two hoses off the vh and splice them together with a coupler.

Beware though, even though they were 5/8 hose mine were stretched and were too lose for the coupler I bought. You need a new set of hose clamps as I don't think the factory spring clamps will cut it.

What are the pros and cons to deleting the V/H?

Pros.
One less thing to eventually leak coolant.
Less drag on the serpentine belt.

Cons.
Cabin heater slower to warm up.
And depending on how you do the delete, must delete the engine driven fan. Which may or may not be a problem depending on where you live and how you drive.

is that big pulley on top the new one?

or is that the old viscous heater pulley moved over?

and i assume that chrome shaft is where the fan clutch used to be?

When I dug into my timing belt recently, I was reading a guide that mentioned the tensioner slot behind the fancouple pulley and to avoid confusing it with the proper one. Couldn't help but wonder if VM Motori makes one that drops right in. Maybe for a different application?

Oh well, worth a thought.

That's where I put mine. Takes about 5 mins with a file to remove a few mils of aluminum and it fits perfectly. I had to add a couple of flat washers as spacers to bring the tensioner pulley out a little bit also. Going on 15k miles. Although i get a tiny squeak at full lock, will eventually try a new tensioner to see if more pressure helps

The squeaky pulley gets the most...

After doing my VH delete and belt re-route, I was having a lot of squeaky noise coming from the drive pulleys.
I replaced all the idlers and tensioner pulley but that didn't help.
Turns out that it was the belt that was too tight and putting too much tension on everything.

So my new setup includes a Gates 36167 steel "big wheel" pulley (instead of the plastic one) and a AC delco 6K815 belt.

No more squeaks. Belt tension is good. Belt clearance is good.

Any belt slip on the crank? I'd like to delete it as well. May do the AC at the same time for the winter which will give me some extra wrap on the crank pulley.

Can the mechanical fan pulley be pulled with a regular puller or is a press required.

Its the same as my previous picture. Just that the big pulley is now metal instead of plastic.
Look up the part number on amazon. There is a picture of the pulley there.
Or just use you imagination :P

Well, its only been a month, but...

After switching to the Gates 36167 steel "big wheel" pulley (instead of the plastic one) and a AC delco 6K815 belt, everything has been working great.
