Here is my tale of woe-

Background - Purchased the 2005 jeep crd new for me and drove it for a year until wife stole it. Lovingly maintained at 123K miles.
Samco Hoses
Nylon fan blade
Weeks elbow kit
New steel 7V glow plugs
New moog upper and lower ball joints
New key after key lost security synch (that one perplexed me)
New fuel filter head (upgraded ages ago)
GDE Eco Tune - last 30 days

Car was a daily driver for my wife up until we went on vaca this summer for two weeks taking the vw mk7 tdi (yes I am selling it back). After we got back from vaca (car sat for 2 weeks) first day she went to work car started fine and ran fine. Afternoon when she went to leave to pick up jr it would not start. Turns over fine but no start.
The car stat until next day until I had a chance to take a look. I assume air in the system so I bleed and sure enough it seemed like it had some air so I bled and then she started no problem. Been awhile since I changed the fuel filter so went ahead and changed the fuel filter in an abundance of caution.
After changing the fuel filter car started no problems. Drove for a couple of days to ops check and verify no further issues. Ok everything looks good until I go to move it and bam no start again. (turns over just fine) UGH.
I just flashed the ECM with the eco tune which turned off the CEL which was on for the EGR stuff and I had a P0700. After the flash no EGR CEL and the P0700 is gone. I bleed again and drive around to ops check again, runs fine and can tell a difference with the tune (for the good). Park it and then try to start later to move and again no start. I wait about an hour try to start again without bleeding and it starts but I now have the P0700 back again and the transmission is shifting clunky. I may have a trans issue but have to believe it is independent of the starting issue.

(battery strong and the only code is the P0700)

As an aside I had the P0700 code ~2 year or so ago and upon further investigation I had suspect filters. After I changed fluid and both filters code went away.

Wife has a new car now so the jeep is mine again which I am very excited about just need to figure out what this is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Sounds like a air in fuel problem.
If you keep having to bleed air out of the fuel filter then you need to find the source of the leak.
The likely culprit is the fuel line back at the tank. But every rubber fuel line, clamp, and seal is a possible leak point.
I also suggest installing a lift pump.

P0700 is a generic transmission fault.
A dealer or transmission shop could probably scan for more specific transmission fault codes.

I agree with the air in the fuel as well. The only thing that has me confused is if I do get a no start condition I can wait say an hour and it will start like nothing happened and run fine with NO bleed....its done that a couple times. If it starts it runs fine. The in tank fuel pump is my next mod for sure as well as the upgraded torque converter.

Setting air in the fuel aside sporadic no start can also be:
1. short between battery cells. Yes I know you say the battery is "strong" but have you had it tested and how old is it. Years back I had a brand new battery to bad on me with the exact same no start come back later and starts fine symptoms. Also check battery terminals for corrosion.
2. crank position sensor. Commonly fails when hot but has been known to cause random no starts prior to completely dying.

Change the CPS (crank position sensor), they are notorious for crapping out and causing no start issues at times and not setting any DTC's (trouble codes)!

CPS on order will advise on the outcome after install. Thank you for input this makes sense with what I have been experiencing. I don't have a fuel pressure gauge but the few times I did bleed pump handle was hard and I got no air also did not change the no start condition.

-I have had a battery go bad with this jeep and the battery installed I am confident is good (2 years old). I have an optimate 6 charger that I hooked up to the battery while this issue plays out. The charger tests the battery and verifies no issue.

An air-in-fuel problem will not heal itself and come and go as you described it was doing!
