Hi all,

I own a 2005 CRD and noticed a tapping sound this morning on my way to work. I pulled the cover off this afternoon, clearly something is wrong. These forums have been a great resource in the past, so I figured I would film the issue rather than having a go at describing it in detail.

1. Sounds like a bad injector seal. You will need new copper crush washers and o rings.

2. Where is your oil cap? The missing oil filler cap will create a oily mess everywhere.

Flash nailed it-

You have at least one, possibly more loose/unsealed injectors;
You are missing the oil filler cap which will cause oil loss.

If the oil gets low enough that will cause another set of problems.

Thanks you two! Will definitely get those purchased or ordered tomorrow. The oil filler cap is now screwed back on. I took it off to remove the plastic engine cover and forgot to replace it. Good eyes! Will update this forum when I install new seals. Hopefully down the road this thread can help someone else.

The local dealership worked on it last - several years ago when the turbo went bad. That was a headache. If you have any recommendations for mechanics near Cincinnati, Ohio - shoot them my way. Who knows when I'll run into another problem!

That buzzing noise with key on engine off is normal. That is the FCV right by the valve cover air inlet.

Just wanted to follow up and tell you my father and I successfully replaced the leaking injector seals. It turned out to be on injector 1. I was able to get a crush washer/ o-ring off of ID Parts site.

All said and done I ordered two kits to be safe and paid $25. Two local shops had estimates of $300.

Was pretty straight forward job as described - the biggest challenge was cleaning out the bottom opening that the injector inserts into. We used a dremel tool tip without the tool powered on - to avoid damaging the aluminum. We had to weld it to a metal rod. We also duct taped a large straw to the tip of the vacuum to suck as much of it out that was loose.

I roll up paper towels and put them on a skinny screwdriver to spin around in the bore. Q-tips work well too - but you need to tape them onto an extension.
