Brake and ABS lights on

I have the brakes and ABS lights on on my dashboard. I tried searching on the web about this issue and they say that there are some wires frying. Where are these wires located and is it safe to drive with this lights on? They come and go. They are not constantly on.

Is your odometer and speedometer still working?

As long as your master cylinder has sufficient fluid and the brakes work, then its safe to drive.

What you describe sounds like a bad ABS wheel speed sensor. Its a common problem and your 2006 has one sensor at each wheel.
The hard part is figuring out which one is bad.

I recommend taking to a shop that can scan the ABS system and identify the bad sensor.
Wouldnt hurt to have all your brake pads checked too.

Under the hood, drivers side. Up against the firewall. Has a yellow cap.
Check owners manual if you cant find it.

ABS is antilock braking system.
The wheel sensors tell the ABS computer if one of the brakes is locking up.

You will still have normal braking ability.

Have you ever been on slick roads, slammed on the brakes and had the wheels lock up?
ABS prevents that from happening.

So, for what I understand ABS is for, is for actually when it rains and you start planning on water. So if it is not raining I can drive safely without ABS on a road trip, right? And as long as I dont need sudden stopping, I am ok?

Under normal conditions you can safely drive.

On an 06 the ABS is also used to apply brakes to a wheel that is free-spinning. 05s used limited slip diffs. 06 applies brakes to wheels with no traction to transfer torque to wheels with traction.

You mean that if mine is an 05, ABS is not so much used and it is actually not used on the case of a free spinning wheel?

Why is that the ABS light on the dashboard comes and go? Some days when I start the engine, it pops up and some days, it doesn't.

I suspect one or more of the communication lines from the hub sensors has been damaged. On my 06 the front hub lines had come loose and were actually contacting the tires. Perhaps something has happened to yours to cause an intermittent open / short / ground in the communication wire.

Mine is a 2005 model. You mean it could not be the ABS sensors but instead, the wiring to those sensors that can be damaged or in false contact?

People drove for 110+ years without ABS and any vehicle(USA sold vehicles anyway) pre-2012 may or may not have ABS anyways.Post 2012 all vehicles sold in the US must have ESP so you get ABS as standard because nobody wants to actually learn how to drive anymore.

Anyways, No, I didn't disclude the sensors in the hubs.

The light problem could be caused by any intermittent problem from the hubs, hall effect sensors, and anything and everything from there, up to and including the ABS computer module, including all wires, insulation, system grounds, etc.

But it doesn't it wouldn't put your life at risk to drive, unless you drive in a way that would do that anyway.

If you can't afford to get it checked out by someone who understands the system and how it works right now;
If you can mentally deal with a light that comes and goes;
If you can drive sanely and safely;

Then drive it. And enjoy it.

However, X2 on Flash's Advice, as soon as you can afford it.

So it seems that it is not so necesary to check it with an ABS scanner, right? The reason I am asking is because not all mechanics have this scanner and I will have to go to a Chrysler authorized repair shop for that purpose and that is usually more expensive.
