starts up but won't run more than 5-10 seconds, no cel, anyone seen this before? is the computer having a brain fart? not sure what killed the battery unless the rear gate was not closed and all the interior lights were on for 3 days.
the remote door lock are not working either.
thx
update, went out and it started just like before and dies, when it dies the glow plug light comes on solid, then it would not turn over again. battery is full charged.

well the previous owner told me the red light in the lower left speedo was the glow plug light, turns out it is the alarm light. the light usually comes on for about 4 chimes and goes off. well now it doesn't come on at all.
the owners manual description of how the vehicle act when the alarm is tripped is exactly what I was getting, run 2 seconds and die. just wondering if someone tried to steal it would that run the battery down?
this may not be what the problem is, heck I don't even know if it has an alarm, I just know the alarm light stopped flashing, door locks don't work, lights and horn don't sound when you push the remote lock.
any thoughts?

What you describe sounds like it might be a problem with the ignition key.
Along with remote door locks, the key has chip in it that gets read by the SKIM and if read properly allows the engine to start.
If you have a spare key, give it a try.

Also,
check ASD fuse
ASD relay
scan for codes
check all fuses
verify that you dont have a air in fuel or fuel supply problem
and if nothing else works, bring to dealer to have key reprogrammed and/or SKIM system diagnosis

If you leave a door open the interior lights would shut off after a short time. You would need to manually turn them on and leave them on to drain the battery.

I agree that running for a couple of seconds sounds like an immobilizer issue probably related to the battery having been completely drained.

Did you disconnect the battery when recharging? There have been reported cases of using an external charger while the battery is still connected to the vehicle resulting in ECU failure though these are probably more related to a bad charger.

well guys, upon your advise I disconnected the battery , switched the asd fuse with the tow package fuse, disconnected the fuse box cable checking for corrosion. took about 7 minutes and the fuse box connection was ok. I checked it because I could see a little green corrosion on the edges. reconnected the battery and pushed the door lock and the horn honked and lights flashed. turned the key and the alarm light was back and she started right up and ran fine.
don't know if it was disconnecting the battery or switching fuses that change things but it's running.

I'd swap them back so you know if you have a bad relay

already plan too, though I think disconnecting the battery for 7 minutes was the cure.

I had the same problem with my 2006 CRD.. it was a wire behind the fuel filter head.

And this happened right after jump starting the vehicle.

I moved and flexed the harness at that spot and the light went away... difficult to find.

there is a piece of 3/8 dense foam between the filter on my crd to prevent chaffing.

Hello Foxhunter,

Interested to know how you made out with this issue?

the crd has been working just fine, seems the computer though someone was trying to steal the jeep and went into anti theft mode when the battery went dead. thus the start for 2 seconds and die. disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes allowed it to reset it's self and recognize the key chip. not a mechanic but just an common guess.
