Quick questions for anyone in Colorado who had to do the diesel emissions testing. Does the GDE tune effect it in away good or bad? Im just trying to figure out if i need to detune it or not before i get it tested.

You should probably PM/email SirSam but a GDE tune should be invisible to emission inspections. Having tune is good if they look a exhaust opacity.

IIRC some have found that the emissions "roller" makes the 06 stability control freak out which can annoy inspectors.

I'm curious how it goes for you. I barely pass every inspection and the guys running the dyno know the Jeep has a tune because it puts out more HP and Torque then the other CRD's they test.

I've run a GDE Ecotune on my 2005 CRD for about 8 years. Based on my experience living at high altitude with the CRD, you may have issues. Two things: the GDE tune greatly reduces the use of EGR, which may raise NOx a bit. Also, I will notice a bit of smoke on strong acceleration with the Ecotune. Whether that would cause issues with the opacity test in Colorado emission inspection, I don't know. I used to live in Colorado (I'm a Colorado native, now a rarity in the state), but not in an area where emission inspections were required. I no longer live in nanny state Colorado ("California Junior"), thank God, and all of the bureaucratic garbage necessary there now thanks to excess population (including emission inspections) are a major reason that I left.

Don't have a tune on my CRD, but I have taken quite a few small diesels in for emissions in CO. They do an opacity test only; they don't measure NOx, CO or anything else at the exhaust. So somewhat easier to pass than it might be otherwise.

They do do a quick visual inspection to see that the factory emissions equipment is in place (cat, ERG, etc). Since I never removed any of that stuff, don't know if they really are aware of everything or are just looking to see that stuff looks factory. Some places will not pass you if your engine light is on, for whatever reason.

I don't think any state tests for Nox. Opacity yes. If your tune improves performance I would say Your opacity levels are better than stock.

Theoretically yes, opacity may be better than stock because cleaner burning of the fuel. The problem is these jeeps will cut boost at altitude in stock form, and it may cause it to run slightly richer. being that denver is at 5000+ feet I would expect a reduction in boost. Not sure how GDE handles this specifically, but what happens on the stock tune is that it shifts it slightly richer because fueling is not necessarily cut with the boost cut.

I will say though that my GDE Hot tune will smoke a bit at higher RPM here at 6500'. It did smoke back in massachusetts too but I dont remember it being as much. its not rolling coal or anything but a noticeable haze. Fortunately all of Utah besides SLC has no emissions testing so i dont really have to worry.
