Hello,

Tomorrow I will be headed to the dealer to get my first service done. My CRD has 6300 miles on the Odometer.
I remember hearing some horror storys about the dealer changing the oil. Any advice what I should ask and/or lookout for?
Also, I called them to make an appointment and they told me that no appointment is necessary since its only an oilchange.
In my little service book, it says that they have to perform lots of other stuff too, like airfilter, brake and exhaust check.

Thanks,
Daniel

Call them back and make sure they understand this is a scheduled service check as listed in your owners manual, if necessary read off to them from the maintenance book what's supposed to be done to your vehicle.

However, for now, be polite and tactful about it. Could be the reason they said "it's just an oil change" is that's the only thing they have to actually wrench on this time around, everything else is just an inspection. But it's not outside the realm of possibility they have their wires crossed and think it's ONLY an oil change.

As I said, be diplomatic until you have reason or evidence to be otherwise. Your first experience with their service personnel will set the tone for your relationship with them, and giving them an unnecessary hard time now will make it that much harder down the road if you have real problems that need to be dealt with.

On the other hand, if you go in and they act like a bunch of a##h###s right out of the gate, don't hesitate to stand up to them. Talk to the service manager, general manager, dealership owner, whoever necessary, to get the service promised in your warranty and other contracts on the vehicle.

Well since its a service, its not covered by the 7 year 70k mile warranty, or any warranty right? Everything they chage me for I have to pay.

Get the tires rotated and the air pressure set, too.

I personally feel that it is a great time to get to know and establish a relationship with the service department and let them know you are somewhat knowledgeable and proactive in your service. Sometimes I think users show up at the service department with a chip on their shoulder the minute they walk in the door and that sets up an adversarial relationship that never works.
