I recently purchased up a new key (E-bay), had it cut and programmed to start my '06 CRD, but cannot get the RKE (remote key-less entry) portion of the key to work. I tried the procedure listed in in the manual (using a current working FOB) but when I try to put the computer into programming mode I don't get any chimes etc. to indicate it is ready. I tried several times following the steps exactly but no luck. Anyone know another way to get the computer into FOB programming mode? I read somewhere that it can be done via the overhead console but I scrolled through the menus and could not find the option for FOB programming. HELP!

It requires TWO working/functioning chipped keys in order to get it into the programming mode.
I have done it several times over as key FOB's have worn out, cracked, falling apart, etc. Never had any problems.
Don't know anything about using a the overhead data center.

This is the instructions I have on file that has worked for me quite a few times:

Jeep Liberty Key Programming Instructions:
1. Insert first programmed key into the ignition and turn ignition switch to ON. Wait for approximately 3 seconds then turn ignition to OFF and remove key.
2. Within 15 seconds of removing first key insert second programmed key into ignition and turn ignition switch to ON. Wait approximately 10 seconds. You will see the immobilizer warning lamp illuminate on the dash and you will hear an audible tone. Turn ignition OFF and remove the key.
3. Within 50 seconds insert the new un-programmed key into ignition. Turn ignition switch to ON. After approximately 10 seconds you should hear an audible tone and the immobilizer lamp will remain illuminated for 3 seconds. Once this occurs programming is completed.
4. For each additional key you must repeat these steps starting with step number 1.

Yes...that is the procedure I used to get the SKIM to recognize the new key RFID and it worked fine.

That isn't the procedure to learn the RKE function of the key. They are two different functions according to the factory service manual, and it lists a separate procedure for programming the RKE...which is not working for me.

Here is the procedure in the manual, I am trying the steps 1-3 as I have a functioning transmitter and get no chime:

STANDARD PROCEDURE - RKE TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING

New Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitters can be programmed using the scan tool and the proper Diagnostic
Procedures manual, if no functioning transmitter is available. The scan tool can provide confirmation that the PCI
data bus is functional, and that all of the electronic modules are sending and receiving the proper messages on the
PCI data bus.

The following procedure can be used as long as one functioning transmitter is available:
1. Turn ignition to the RUN position (allow ignition chimes to stop).
2. Using any original (working) transmitter, press the UNLOCK button for 4 to 10 seconds.
3. Within the specified 4 to 10 seconds, continue pressing the UNLOCK button and press the PANIC button for 1
second, and release both buttons (a chime will sound to indicate that the transmitter programming mode has
been entered - allow 3 seconds for chime to sound).
4. Press LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for 1 second and release.
5. Press and release any button on the same transmitter and a chime will sound after successfully programming the
transmitter.
6. Repeat steps 4 to 6 to program additional transmitters.
7. Turn ignition to the OFF position. Transmitter programming mode will discontinue after 60 seconds. All transmitter
programming must be completed within time specified.

Here is the procedure using the OH console menu but it does not come up as an option on my console screen:

TRAIN REMOTE - When this feature is selected the driver can choose to train up to four remote keyless entry
transmitters. The options include Yes and No. The default is No. When Yes is selected and the MENU button
is pressed the EVIC will display “PRESS A VALID FOB KEY”. Follow the directions displayed in the EVIC, you
have approximately 30 seconds to train each transmitter, after each transmitter is trained the EVIC will display
“FOB #? TRAINED”.
