Hi PALiftedKK! It’s been a while so I just thought I’d check in and see how the M1101 build is going. I’ve been out camping with my M116A3 already this year and plan to do that several more times in the summer. One of the things on my to-do / wish list is to get the spare tire out of the trailer interior and think of a better mounting solution than throwing it in my Jeep’s roof basket. I’d like to mount it underneath the trailer frame on a spare tire winch (like a pickup truck). I don’t do any crazy rock crawling with this thing so maximum ground clearance isn’t a priority. It has 32’s on 16 inch rims from a GMC 2500. The civvy tires are easier to deal with than the 37’s it came with. On yours you still run the 37’s on beadlock rims, right? Yours look like they are still in good shape (unlike what my trailer came with). Do yours include internal run-flats? If so, you might not need to bother with where to put a spare. But if you did need a spare, where would you mount it?
Yep, shes still got the 37s. Probably 90% tread left on them but that's getting worse now as I have functional brakes and once in a while I forget there's 4k lbs behind me and stomp on the brakes. My brake controller has an inertia based brake mode and senses normal braking versus emergency situations. It's a 50/50 if they lock up. I think it may be user error though. Like maybe the pads are to tight or something. On user control mode I have it set to 4.25 and that is the highest it can go before the brakes lock up on the trailer. Hmm.
I do have the run flats but have always thought about removing the PVC run flats as they are darn heavy... i want to make a bumper that slides into the stabilizer leg pockets. Toss a 35" spare on the back because ain't no one got money for a 37" spare that will most likely never be used. 35" spare is affordable and no need to tire size match when there is nothing locking left and right sides together.
Also, the trailer is getting it's tent frame stiffened up early may as well as the linear actuator supports welded on. Those supports have to be beefy as they each need to be capable of holding 250lbs each. Once the tent frame is 100% complete I can start permanently wiring the tent instead of wire loom and zip ties up and down the sides of the tent frame. I'm super excited for the frame to finally be finished as that's really all that's left to do that I can not easily do since I'm not much of a welder.
