To leather or not to leather?

Ok, what is everybody's opinion on leather versus cloth interior? Is it just looks or are there real benefits to having a leather interior? Thanks again!

What else? Hummm....so far they seem easy to keep clean. Not sure what else and I was a little skeptical having not had them before.

The dogs don't like them because I will not let them get in the Liberty!!!!! :wink:

I am trying to find a good solution for a barrier behind the back seat that comes in and out easily so they can ride back there occassionally. It really only needs to be a net and I will figure that out sooner or later.

I had leather in my 2002...it looked great and was ok durability wise but the drivers seat will always age quicker and the two front seats usually age faster than the rear...so you will end up with 3 types of leather looks in your KJ at 20,000 miles or so. I ended up adding the Mopar Seat Covers ( black skin suit material ) and it saved the leather. At about 50,000 miles the driver's side seat cover started to wear a little but the seat looked like new. The thing is I never saw the leather.

My new 2006 CRD has the cloth interior and I am not dissapointed at all with the look...besides after I add the Mopar Seat Covers it will look the same as my leather interior...so I guess I would rather spend the money on the seat covers that the leasther AND seat covers.

i say do not get leather
we have it in our KJ and dont care for it ,to hot, and after 3 years the 2 front seats dont mach each other nor do thay mach the back

Thanks for the replies. I am looking on autotrader for a used Liberty, either a Limited or Renegade and they all seem to have leather!!!!

I like my leather. Not sure how much difference the seats are by model year or due to being leather over cloth, but Ted (USAFCOP) said my seats are a lot more comfortable than his. Since mine is a daily driver, the leather is nice and at 24,000 miles (1 yr 9 months), mine are in awesome condition.

I do not have a dog to worry about though.

I like the leather because it's essentially water proof and doesn't get dog hair and stuff stuck in it. Cloth sticks to you a lot more which should be better off road, but when I try to shift or stretch in a cloth seat it annoys me. If you want heated heats you pretty much need leather. It's all personal preference but if it was an option I'd rather have leather with suede insert, then you get the best of both worlds.

I love my leather, but they do not hold up good in the libby. I got the wet okole seat covers for the front and take the backs off in the summer. I leave the bottoms on to protect the leather, this way it shows some leather. Ive scratched mine with my finger nails which is just sad. The back seats seem to have alot of fake leather but they hold up alot better. If the front seats had fake leather on the sides then it would be ok. Mine started to crack alittle on the edge of the drivers seat after only 16k. The heated seat is great, but doesnt work as fast with the seat covers. Work great with them off though!

Conclusion, get cloth seats!!!

The seat covers actually make the seats more comfortable...the extra thickness I quess.
