Installing an intank lift pump...Couple of questions

Hello,

I am installing an intank lift pump using a Sasquatch harness for the tie in.

I have lifted the rear carpet up and found the plug that the incab part of the harness goes to. It is connected to a set of wires that goes down and out..Maybe fuel quantity? The squatch harness does not allow this part to be reconnected again..

Also, on the Squatch harness, it has two connectors for the underside of the Jeep. One obviously is for the lift pump. What does the other connect to? I assume that it connects to the OEM portion currently on the tank and replaces the other half of the connector in the cab that runs outside????

I just did this, but modified my existing harness. Outside one connector goes to the lift pump/sending unit and the other goes to the abs sensor on top of the rear diff.

I'm not sure what the extra wires would be for, mine was a single harness that goes through the floor. Maybe you could trace where they go or take some pictures and link them so we can look? Perhaps a wire broke somewhere and they jumped it?

As the picture shows, the new harness connects to the connector under the rear seat.
The other end, one connects to the new fuel module on top of the fuel tank, and the other connector connects to the speed sensor on top of the rear differential.

Welp, all done!

I can say, it starts quicker and idles more smoothly and quieter.... It SEEMS like its acceleration is more linear....

My initial confusion was with the Sasquatch harness. At first I didn't get that you throw away the old one completely but @Foxmiles info made it all come together.. Maybe Seth could put a little diagram in with the harness for dummies like me lol. The other install write ups all rewired existing harnesses..

3 things: I cleaned and reused the original green gasket.

I did not clock the new pump as the orientation and fuel line flex made that unnecessary.

The float that came with this Carter pump was identical to the one that came out of the tank in every way.

So, I did not change it. When all done, the fuel gauge read 1/8 which is what I started with. I went and fueled up with 16 gallons and it read full.

I consider this project a success and I AM GLAD ITS DONE!

congrats!

That pump now equals a great host of fuel supply, fuel aeration, and CP3 fuel pump issues that no longer can exist, as long as the pump is working, and that pump its' self is an astonishingly durable unit, as long as you don't run it dry, :rockon:

Any existing air leak, will now either seal it's self, or reveal it's self because of the pressurized fuel.

Glad you got-er-done! Your Jeep will love you for it! Next to EGR removal, the second best mod that can be done to the Jeep CRD.
It's amazing what a difference a little fuel pump can make..... :shock:

If this is the 05, WWDiesel has a dual filtration setup, with glass water separator, FAR, FAR better than the OEM, with everything needed to fit it up. There are other things you can do.. lesser improvement for less money, but now that you have the in-tank pump, his system is probably the best bang for your buck, IMO.

Without the in-tank pump, it would cause early failure of the CP3 pump due to inability to draw through the finer filters, and resulting cavitation. With the pump you installed, it maintains positive pressure,so there is no problem. Plus he has a low pressure gauge that monitors the condition of the filters.

Check with him for more detailed information, pics, etc.
