Yes but none of those are DOHC roller rocker engines... again for best life we need a HTHS oil, there is a lot of shear effect in our engines, a large diesel has different requirements

The main wear I see in these engines are the rockers of course. Which oil is going to help them last longer? Are they always going to be wearing out in 1-200k miles? Seems like poor design if so

At 160k miles when I replaced my head, my rockers were still in good shape.
Up until that point I had exclusively used Rotella T6 5w-40.

The factory recommended 0w-40 oil seems to have been a poor choice and promoted early wear of the
rocker arms because either:
A. it doesn't adequately hold the soot in suspension, leaving abrasive deposits on the bearings
Or
B. it doesn't adequately stick to components, leaving them dry after sitting overnight and at cold startup
(the rocker arms only receive splash lubrication)

And I've spent plenty of time on BITOG.
If you really dig into all the data and discussions, basically all the HDEO's are crap!
Far below all the high end synthetics for gasoline engines in terms wear protection and TBN.
Even some conventional gas engine oils perform better.
But if you run a diesel engine you need a high detergent oil that maintains control of soot contamination.
Its those additive packages that ultimately hurt the overall performance of diesel engine oils.
Its a trade off that we just have to deal with.

A few more thoughts on engine oils...

Pretty much all the off the shelf diesel engine oils are sold as "fleet service."
Which means that its good for both your gasoline and diesel engines and the fleet manager only has to
purchase 50 gallon drums of one type of oil for the whole fleet of cars and trucks.
Which means the oil isn't really the best for either gasoline or diesel engines.
Its another trade off.

Then there are the small oil companies that sell "custom blend" oils with no API or ACEA certification.
And these oils are in many cases superior to anything you can by off the self and competitively priced.
Competitively priced because the company didn't have to pay for the testing.
(sorry, I dont have any specific examples at this time)

But I would not put 0 weight oil in anything, even something I hated

Ever seen what professional drag racers put in their engines?
Try 0w-5
But to be fair, those engines are built to tighter tolerances, they're only going a 1/4 mile at a time, and
are sometimes torn down after every run. :D

If you have got rid of the EGR and do your oil change @ 3000miles you should still have pretty clean oil still ( I do, with a flush every 2 oil change )

So high detergent in oil is not that relevant, I would be looking at the lubricity first.

And the leichtlauf 5w40 oil has more calcium than the shell t6 (2600ppm vs 2000ppm)for better cleaning and it has lots of added ash for better lubrication, and it flows like water when cold

So what do we make of the lost member that got multiple results from (blackstone) that said the oil was still good at 10k? I think it was T6.
I switched to delo 400 5w40 from t6 after another member said it stopped his oil consumption, and guess what, it did the same thing for my engine! Not that that means it's the best oil...
I do 5k oil changes...

One down side, you won't walk into your parts store or Walmart and find leichtlauf (Liqui-Moly) diesel oil on the shelf. Can be ordered online from some sites
They also have oils in other weights like 10W40 & 15W40, but be very careful, most of their oils even though diesel rated are mineral based oils, not full synthetic.
Some are listed as "Synthesis Technology" based, not sure what exactly this means, maybe a blend?
If you go this route, be sure it is a full synthetic oil.
and the price for the 5W40 full synthetic is greater than $40 in most places on line, it's not cheap oil.

Liqui Moly 2041 Premium 5W-40 Synthetic Motor Oil - 5 Liter Jug $45.40
Liqui Moly 2022 Diesel High Tech Synthetic 5W-40 Motor Oil - 5 Liter Jug: $43.81

Napa has liquimoly in stock, lm2332 is the part number for the 5l jug of the leichtlauf, the other 2 mentioned are not for this engine, the lm2041 is for older engines that are not hths so like an old 350 and the 2022 is for a power stroke or Cummins. In the new emissions controlled diesels you can’t use a high saps oil like the leichtlauf cause it will plug the DPF. But it’s great for engines that burn oil and need high anti wear, that’s why it meets some of Mercedes highest AMG specs

Leichtlauf is probably the best oil you can put in the CRD !!!!

To add some icing to the cake add the LM 2009 molybdenum additive
