I dont knwo if you remember my past few posts about weird vibrations comming from the front end of my libby, and all the LBJ's and Cv's were good. I just recieved a call from the dealer and it turns out the front diff is comming seperated from the front axel. Not verticle, but horizontily.......I still don't get it. It is covered under my 7/70 with $100 deductable which is good b/c he said it would be about $3000 without it???? But he then told me that it would be a week before he could even get the part in?? I've never waited more than a day for any part regardless of the make/model of the vehicle......does this sound fishy? And it's not that big of a deal but he then said they didn't provide a replacement vehicle???!?!? They only have a discount for a rental? I think that's a bit rediculous?? What's going on here? Anyone got any insight..thank you!

Check with your warranty info again, somewhere in there it states something about provisions of a rental...I know when my dealer just needed to fix my fog lamps they picked my car up AT work and then LEFT ME with a brand new Jeep GC to drive around in...plus I think it is some dealers policy to give a rental car...check with regional manager and check on their "5star" status and if they have a rental car policy....

I tried getting a rental the other day when having warranty work done and I was told that they only give rentals to people who buy the extended warranty otherwise you have to use their shuttle service. I thought that was a load of crap considering I bought a brandnew vehicle from them.

I think you're probably right about that. That's what sold me on the extended warranty, believe it or not. I really wanted that free rental even if I had to pay $2000 for it.

I think they told me that the extended warranty had "first day rental", wheras normal warranty work would give you a rental for things taking longer than a day. Not sure about that one, call up DC and ask. I have a warranty card that says "Service Contracts - DaimlerChrysler Corporation" on it and has a phone number of 1-800-521-9922 on it. Might just be boston area, though, I'm not sure. I give them my VIN (printed on the card as my account number) and they give me details on the coverage level of the warranty. I called them awhile back to see if I was covered when I brought the jeep in for body work - they said it's only for service and warranty work, comprehensive and collision work rentals should be covered by insurance.

sounds reasonable to me. Good thing they are taking care of you. $100 is nothing for all the work you will be getting done.

Very Fair IMO.

The part won't be in for a week, so can you just keep driving the jeep? If the vibration wasn't that bad and you drive carefully, the worst case is that you break the parts they are already planning on fixing.

Or is it already taken apart in their shop and they won't put it back together until they get the parts?

I asked him if I could drive it till then and they suggested that I didn't, and that it wasnt safe. The funny thing is I have noticed that vibration for the last 2000 miles. So if I dont get a rental Ill just count my blessings...especially since I'll only be parting with the $100.

When i was still in my 3yr/36K warranty i had brake trouble covered under warranty. The part was on backorder, and it took 9 days to get done. I was without my Jeep for that long. I asked about a rental and they said they wouldnt provide one, I called an 800 number to ask, and they 'looked into it' and didnt provide me with one either. The dealer is NOT required to provide one for (3/36 or 7/70) warranty work through DC, but some good ones will.

Since you need to get a rental anyway, you may as well enjoy it. Rent a pickup truck and spend the week hauling stuff around for people. or rent a convertable and cruise for chicks on the beach.

or more likely rent a dodge neon to save the extra $10/day so you can put it into the jeep when you get it back :-)

Or save more money and ride a bike instead of using gas. Today was Bike-To-Work Day here in Denver metro. About 20,000 people rode their bikes to work instead of driving.

I think I declined the rental option in my extended warranty since I believe there was more cost for it. A Vespa is also a great choice to get around. Be a Metrosexual man. HAHAHA!

Well here's your follow-up. I went into the dealer and asked to speak with the service manager about my issue with a rental. At first he didn't seem to be very helpful, but I told him I'd be happy to fill out a "hows our service" card, and that I was very dissappointed in Chrysler's non-rental car service. And before leaving his office I told him that it was a shame that this would be the last Chrysler I ever bought. About 10 seconds later he caught be at the exit doors and brought me back into is office. To make a long story short I picked up my 2005 Dodge Dakota crew cab this morning and the dealer's paying for it until I get my Jeep back. I am going to send a letter to DC and let them know about the Service Manager's willingness to help. He deserve's to be recognized for his handling of the situation.

Was your clincher statement true, or just a ploy to try and get what you wanted? You sounded pretty convinced in your other post about being done with "American" cars.

It's true. This KJ probably will be the last one I own as a main mode of transportation. I need something a little bigger with better gas milage, I drive 75 miles a day to and from work and being in FL I dont do much wheeling. But I need a vehicle to pull my boat and jet ski's. I really want to buy an older Wrangler though b/c I love to wheel, it's just not practical for my lifestyle. As someone pointed out in that other thread I believe I rushed into the KJ just b/c I loved it soooo much. BUT WHO CAN BLAME ME FOR THAT RIGHT??!??

I had to drop off my jeep last week for a smal recall they were doing. They gave me a rental car for the whole day free of charge, just had to make sure it had the same amount of gas when I was done. I have no extended warrenty.

I'm glad they paid for your rental after all that. I'm a bit torn, however, about that fact that you had to lean on the service manager to get him to do what he should have done in the first place. I really don't think that, just because he gave you a loaner, means that the dealership is "fixed." I'm sure the next person through the door is going to have to go through the same hassle because they're trying to sqeeze the pennies out of the everyone that comes in.

I, personally, would not give them a super high rating on the card. I would state exactly what you had to go through to get a warranty rental. I wouldn't embelish, but I wouldn't pour honey all over the place either. I'd just tell DC that they (and their dealers) should treat the customers better.

But that's just me. :-)

How big is your boat? What about getting a CRD Liberty? Tows like a monster man. I get 32MPG on the highway and average 18-24MPG towing. Just an idea.

That's a good point, I'll make sure to handle it like that and maybe they'll get the point and see what a little customer service can do. I've got a 17' foot and a couple of jet ski's. So nothing huge. And CRD is a good idea. But I want something cheaper and bigger, but 32mpg on the highway isn't bad at all. I'd die to have that right now lol. I'm getting about 18 highway with my lift and tires, it SUKS! I might as well get that Grand Cherokee SRT8 and have a little speed.
