Title almost says it all, i can get my hands on a set of '02 renegade side steps at a reasonable price. I'm awaiting pics, and i asked specifically for pics of the mounting points. Did a search of the forum, the only thing i turned up is one post where there was a similar exchange between two LOST members but i believe they both had '02s. I am figuring on having to do some drilling; besides the lack of pre-drilled holes is there anything else i should be aware of? Hoping that somebody else has tried something similar and can give me advice on the install...or tell me why it won't work if that's the case.
Thanks in advance

I believe those attach with nutserts, as the mopar rock rails do. I know they changed the rock rails between '04 and '05, and I would make an educated guess to say that the mounting locations changed too. I would also guess that side steps and rock rails would use the same mounting locations.

Good luck on that! Hope it ends up working.

Slow day here, so i've been searching the web to see if anybody else had tried something similar. Everything i found pretty much backs up what you said about different mounting positions. i'm beginning to think that even if it could be made to work, it's going to be more trouble than it's worth for a cosmetic upgrage. Crawled under the KJ and took some measurements of where mounting locations are. I guess i'll be a pita and ask the guy to take some measurements tho just to make sure before i give up on this one. Or maybe crawl under an '02-04 to take some myself.

Thanks Mike. I love jparts, but i wish they had better (and sometimes any) pictures. I pretty sure i can use their model number to search the net for a pic, so i guess its time for some more research. I might even try calling/emailing them for an answer, i've got good service from them in the past.

edit:
not quite the one's i'm looking at...here's a pic of the ones i might buy:

but it's encouraging that something that fits on an '02 can be used on an '05.

Look on my Cardomain pages and you'll see the side steps on my Renegade before I switched to rock rails.

I have an 02 Renegade. I removed the side steps and installed 05 Renegade rock rails. They fit in exactly the same way.

Keep in mind I was installing them on a Renegade model. I think with the Sport, you may have to drill a couple holes in the frame rails. Really not a big deal.

Just remember, measure twice cut once!

anybody know where i can download the installation instructions for the mopar rock rails? Nothing in the tech articles section, Jeepkj doesn't have it, and neither does aerostar's jeep page.
