Greetings, I don’t post much here but I do lurk quite a bit. I recently moved my daughter and her 05 CRD to Florida (this liberty previously belonged to ID parts and Frost heaters). It ran well on the 1600 mile trip, but shortly after arriving in Florida it bucked and quit as I came to a stop (just like it would if it were a manual and I stopped without pressing the clutch). In most of my testing it seemed to be happening once the vehicle was warmed and it was parked for an hour. My daughter told me that it did this morning after about a third of a mile (relatively cold) at her first light. It behaved for her all day long other than that. Each time I had this problem it seemed to disappear after a few minutes of driving.
It seems that the problem is related to the TCC engaging and not disengaging when stopping. From my Fiero it feels exactly like when the TCC solenoid failed in that car. I was thinking about replacing just the solenoid pack, but after some searching I found a rebuilt valve body and new solenoid pack from Transmission Parts Now, and I am thinking about shipping that, new fluid, and filters to replace the parts in Florida.
Has anyone experienced a similar problem? Any thoughts on my replacement choices?
It is a common issue with these transmission with age and miles. The cure is to replace the front pump assembly.
The root cause is described below:
