Got my 2006 CRD (US spec, if that matters) back together after removing the head to have the manley valves installed and replace the timing belt, alongside a bunch of "while I'm in there" stuff like EGR and VH delete.

Everything seems okay, but crank/no start.

The only code is the two EGR codes

Autel scanner confirms fuel pressure is reaching above the set point, I have verified no air in the fuel lines and have appropriately primed the filter head. Scanner also confirms the injectors are not firing. There is no smoke or fuel smell at the tailpipe after cranking.

The PID for cam/crank sync says "no sync"

The Engine RPM (which I believe is also the PID for the crank position sensor) is reading normally.

The Cam Position Sensor RPM is, however, not reading normally. It is reading a static RPM, even when the engine is not cranking. I have tried multiple different sensors, and all give a different static RPM (original Bosch 234 RPM when not cranking and 236 RPM when cranking, Wagner 202 RPM/205 RPM, Duralast 220 RPM/218 RPM)

The Bosch and Wagner sensors do show a slight increase in RPM while cranking, but the Duralast shows a slight drop in RPM when cranking.

I do not believe it is a wiring issue. With the key on, the middle pin is getting 4.8V, the left pin has good continuity with the ground, and the right pin has good continuity with the ECM.

Thoughts and diagnostic suggestions welcome. Thanks in advance!

Make sure you don't have the Camshaft and Fuel Pressure sensors connected to the wrong locations. They have the exact same three pin connectors and are easily reversed. It has happened before to others. Pay close attention to the wire colors for the connectors as they are different. See drawing

Thanks, I confirmed this by leaving the camshaft sensor unplugged and then cranking, which immediately threw a P0340 code (camshaft position sensor)

Took me a few days to get a break in the weather (and my schedule) but I have confirmed that those two plugs are not reversed. In fact, with the factory electrical tape and wire looms intact, my fuel pressure sensor pigtail won't even reach the cam sensor (I tried)

I'm having a hard time believing I could have re-assembled it out of time since the cams and crank were locked with the tool kit from IDParts. Plus, with the cam sensor reading over 200rpm when the engine is stationary... it seems like there's a bigger issue than the timing. Hoping there is something else to check.

Last time I pulled a head off, I missed reconnecting a ground terminal to the chassis somewhere and the engine wouldn't start. I wish I could remember exactly where, but I bet someone has a list of the 3 or 4 that are in the engine bay. It was something I had to remove to flop the whole topside engine harness over out of the way.
