You'd get mid 20s towing a 17' boat. The CRD doesn't even notice when a double-up jetski trailer is back there. Might be a good option for you. Although, it's not bigger, and we're a bit limited on the lift options. Other than that, the CRD KJ is perfect for what you're talking about (that what I use it for).

SRT8,vroom, vroom,test drove one last week(took alot of b/s'ing to test drive)and it's a rush like you wouldn't believe.The salesman that went with me let me floor it on the highway doing 60mph,front raised,aloud growl emitted from the exhaust and we hit 100mph in a blink of a eye! The price tag and insurance would kill me though,but it was fun for that 20 min of test driving it.

I posted about a tranny problem I had with my Rene with about 6,000 miles on her about 7 months ago. They ended up doing a tranny overhaul on it under warranty of course. My Jeep was there for about 6 or 7 days because of parts that they needed. They provided me with a free rental Liberty Sport for the whole time, no questions asked. They offered it up without me even getting to asking. Dan's jeep in Westboro, MA. I should be grateful about my luck I guess. I thought it was standard procedure for them to do that.
