Well I have a question for you guys. I know there is an electronics section but I figured this would get more views. I just bought a cb from my buddy and it has a pa function. I went to radio shack and got a little pa speaker.

Here is my problem. The cb only puts out 4 watts the speakers rms is 25 with a peak of 50. Is there some kinda of small amp I can get to make this thing a little louder. I went back to radio shack and they had this huge pa amp that was 40 watts but it plugged into a normal wall outlet and had a bunch of different mic ins and controls.

Im just simply trying to amp this little speaker a little bit.

I was thinking about buying like a car audio tweeter amp. I found one on ebay made by sony thats 20x2 and its a heck of a lot cheaper than the real pa amp.

But any suggestions about this would be very appreciated. Thanks again guys!

I think a tweeter amp is probably a great choice, and even if it's tuned for use with a tweeter, those frequencies are right around human speech anyway, so it'll work well. Make sure the speaker for the PA is rated for something that the amp can drive (4ohm, typically)

The 4 watts you mention is merely the transmitting output of the CB. It has nothing to do with the amps used by the PA speaker.

Hook it up, you'll be surprised and how loud it can be.

Oh, good call. I assumed he had already hooked it up and wanted a little more volume, ignoring the 4W transmission thing. If you haven't hooked it up, yet, I agree - try it out first, then decide if it needs more.

Yea I already hooked it up. The problem im having is that the manual says the pa speaker should be 5 watts 4 ohms. But the smallest radio shack had was the 25 watt 4 ohm. So I think the speaker is overkill and I need an amp to make up for it.

I dunno im still trying to research this more. I think I might take the speaker back found a powered pa speaker on an online cb shop. that might work out better.

No, That means the speaker can handle 25watts. It will be ok.
