I didn't feel any sag in the front, in this setup the winch adds 35 kg aprox and the support about 5 kg or less, so is adding close to 40 KG. I was able to raise the winch, support it, and use a wrench to attach the winch just by myself.

Claudio, I dont mean to be rude or abrupt or anything, but have you used this winch in extreme conditions ? My bet is, that winch under full load would rip right off the front of your car & leave a big mess. For instance, If you were at the bottom of a very very steep hill, stuck in mud with people & luggage on board, connected your winch uphill to a tie off point whatever, and used it, the upward pulling motion would rip that winch clean off the front of your car....its the rolling motion that does the damage. The winch SHOULD be on top or directly infront of the main chassis line of the vehicle.

This was something that I was priveliged enough to see and be taught by a company that manufactures bullbars/winches. It was the skunkworks of a highly popular & famous Australian 4x4 accessory supplier. Some of the pictures would astound you of what happens "When Winches Go Wrong!" lol!! Sounds like a TV show ? lol!

OzLtd don't worry about been rude, this kind of talk could make safer wheel for all, about the install, here in Chile there is a law for tax over vehicles equiped with 4x4, 2 door and a winch, they are considered as work vehicles and will give you 19% of the total paid, for tax use, so EVERY 4x4, 2 door sold over here is equiped with winch, and installed by Warn for the importer and then sold, and the only vehicles with support on top of the main chasis are Samurai's, Cj's, Wrangler's and Rubicon's, every other 4x4, 2 door is equiped by Warn with the winch under the main chasis (Landrover, Tahoe, Vitara, Nissan, Toyota, etc), and never have any problems, the winch i installed was in a Nissan Terrano II i own before:

If you look under the front bumper you can see where is installed and i can tell you !! i abuse of it several times, even the low end is curved for cable pressure. I think the concern must be about the proper instalation and the proper braket fabrication to support the forces.

I haven't tested yet, but before i really need it, i will test it in a secure enviroment, and see how it moves the brakets with force applied, there is a second point to give strength to the winch support and is a plate between the winch plate and the front cross member, this could be large to the second cross member and use it as a skid plate, but test will tell. I'm with lot of work, so no time to play for 2 weeks, when i do the test i will post it.

Sorry about any mispelling, english is not my primary language.

Claudio

Excellent info & nice reply.

These are 3 photos of what the KJ looks like with most of the front end off. You will see that the front member is part of the whole Monocoque body/chassis that the KJ has. A good Monocoque is always going to be stronger than a ladder + body tub arrangement, but the poor KJ has a small & flimsy thin metal box section front member that isnt really good for winching off, hence why ARB has made such a heavy booty winch/bullbar. They have actually done a magficient job of creating that bar, but of course the unfortunate side effect is that its darn heavy....:(

The company that is working on mine (No# one opposition for ARB, there's a tip ;) ) has taken on board all of the good points & bad points of the other bars on the market & decided to try & mould it all into one. What the KJ'ers on this board have to understand is, that when a large company like this decides to make a bar, they have to appeal to all of the market requirements, which in turn includes your "Grey Army 65+ just retired" couples that want to tour the Country before they die (lol!) and want a front bar, but they dont nessessarilly want a hard core 90 deg approcah angle rock crawling championship 10mm thick black steel front bar !! :shock: LOL!! Although........that sounds super nice to someone like me 8) :lol:

ARB made 2 bars for the mighty TJ, a Winch & a Non-Winch bar, because;
a)the market demanded it
b)there are shiet loads of TJ's around the world and
c) they would open up the options for sales & subsequently make more money

I can only hope that the guys i'm working with decide to do the same, but so far, I doubt it :(

Nice photos, i really like black KJ :lol: and the new front end is more suitable for puting the winch as mine, i think the front cross member have been reinforced at where the hooks attach, so i can use the hook to take the whole jeep out, so i take this points to attach the winch.
